Stellas eyes have been really cloudy for the last 3 days, but she fed on wednesday even with the cloudy eyes, which surprised me, i thought she may have refused.
This morning they have cleared completely so im expecting her to shed in the next few days.
Should i put her sphagnum moss in tonight to aid her shed?
And should i defrost it, pour boiling water over it and then let it cool to room temp before putting it in?
And just keep it damp with warm water?

Nice to hear she's doing so well. Also good for her that she can have aspen again after the need for the tissue (I imagine for easier hygine reasons i.e. the tail?) and can burrow freely! |

Cheers everyone.
She is fine now. Ive put her back on aspen shavings and she loves it. Weighed her this morning at 45g and shes due a feed tomorrow.
So i think its safe to say she is doing well, she was 12g when i got her in November.

That is fantastic news Gaz .
I know you must have been concerned about what would happen to Stella's tail tip this shed, but you did everything you could to help her and it paid off. You can start breathing again now !!
Cant wait to see picks of Stella all nice and shiny  !

Stella shed in the night and i found it this morning!
Complete shed, tail tip was attached to the shed, no blood, and she has got a completely healed tail tip.
You can barely tell anything was ever wrong with her!
Im so pleased its untrue!

Mike - Ive got some tamodine at hand to keep any infection at bay. Her last 2 sheds were perfect and complete (except the tail tips) so im hoping that after this shed and when her tip has healed she will shed well forever without damp hides etc.
But just for this one i thought i would offer a damp hide in case she struggles with the tail.

I have a couple who feed while cloudy, and a few that don't, some snakes just can't help the,selves! The moss will help with the shed, but, you shouldn't need to use it for every shed, if you are finding that it is needed then there are issues somewhere else, some kind of stress. Out of all 50 or so snakes I have, the only ones I have had shedding issues with is a royal, every corn has a succesful complete shed every time, so far anyway!
Am sure yours will be fine. Just don't be tempted to help the tail fall off! When it does, if you can get hold of some f10 cream, or dermagel, it will work wonders. |

Snickers used to eat even while cloudy too. Then suddenly one time she refused and didn't eat for almsot three weeks. I was worried, but then she shed and ate like a little piggy.quote:

Thats the reason im giving her the moss, just in case she struggles shedding with her tip. Its her first shed since the tip died.
It is completely black and looks like a dry scab almost.
Im hoping it comes off with this shed and doesnt bleed too much or cause any problems.
So fingers crossed she is all sorted in the next few days.

If you think she would benefit from moss then yeah, stick it in.
I defrost WITH boiling water, leave the moss to cool and then squeeze out all the excess water. Depending on what hide/container the moss is in, it can stay damp for a good few days, but if you do need to dampen it again then a little water will be fine, just be sure to give it a good squeeze again.
How is her tail looking btw?
