have made several hides to replace the boxes etc currently using, hides are all dried out and am planning to put 3 coats of primer them tomorrow , then 3 of paint and varnish them.
question i have is do i just do the outside or does the inside to be varnished to seal it also?

Not as long as its sealed with a proper waterproof laquer or varnish. That'll obviously do the waterproofing; so I don't see why you can't use any paint.

Yes, you need to spray primer on all of it, and varnish it all, but you dont have to paint the inside.
