Posted - 30/01/2010 : 09:22:29 well last night i fed monty for the first time after him coming back. well hes back. as soon as he realised there was food he went mad. 2 months of no feeding really drove him crazy. he struck at the fuzzy as soon as i put it near him and it was gone before i could get the camera on and ready for a pick. he was hungry. back to his usual self. will see how he is on sunday and then order his 3ft tank on sunday. then he will get fed another 1 fuzzy next friday and then if he takes that one ok then he will move into the 3ft. so happy. |

Posted - 31/01/2010 : 05:03:07 Surely if he is 30" a 3' viv would be much too big and scary for him....especially following his recent experience?? We usually say that the rule of thumb is length of snake = length of viv + width of viv. have you thought about that?
Also, remember not to move Monty up his feeds too fast. I know you want to fatten him up as he has lost weight since he disappeared, but it needs to be done slowly, so go by his weight. Remember this guide....but remember that it is only that - a VERY ROUGH GUIDE:
1 Pinkie: 1 to 5 days old (0.5 - 3g) - feed every 5 to 6 days (Snake = 4-15g) 2 Pinkies (3-4g) – feed every 5 to 6 days (Snake = 16-23g) Small Fuzzy: 6 to 13 days old (3 - 6g) – feed every 6 to 7 days (Snake = 24-30g) Fuzzy (7-9g) – feed every 6 to 7 days (Snake = 30-50g) Fluff/Hoppers: 2 to 3 weeks old (7-12g) - feed every 6 to 7 days (Snake = 51-90g) Small Adult/Weaned: 3 to 4 weeks old (13-18g) - feed every 7 days (Snake = 91-170g) Large: 4 to 6 weeks ((19 to 25g) – feed every 7 to x days (snake = 170g+) X large: 6 months + old (350 +) – feed every 10 to x days (Snake = 170+)
According to this he should be on fluffs/hoppers once a week. Get the pet shop to weigh them out so you can be sure of their size. I am no expert though Danny, so wait for those who know better to comment.

Posted - 30/01/2010 : 13:30:34 lenght, about 30 inches maybe less hard to measure him, age i think he was a june 08 so that would make him baout 1 and 2/3. weight about 60g after him coming back. before he went he was about 80 and about to move up on food, bit late on moving him up . so will buy 10 fuzzies, that will last 5 weeks cuz i have 1 left for next week and then the week after that i am gunna try 2. then if he is doing good on 2 then i will see his wieght and maybe buy one small mouse or whatever is after fuzzy? and try that.
what is after fuzzy? |

Posted - 30/01/2010 : 11:30:17 That is great news Danny, and am glad you are being sensible about not feeding him too much too quick, although I am sure it is tempting when he is so obviously hungry.
Have forgotten how big he is and age , sorry! What is his age, length and weight now?
