Hi all and thanks for looking.

I am having some trouble with the stat on colins viv. Where should you site the probe. I been told it should be at substrate level over the heatmat but the bloke from eurorep (the company that makes habistats) told me it should be taped to the heatmat. I tried that and all that happened was the stat would turn on the mat for a few seconds then switch off again the result was the temp plunged to 26 degrees.

WHats your opinion guys id sooner trust you lot

Thanks guys I think I got it sorted now. Seems I had a dodgy stat and the one my rep dealer brought round for me to borrow while mine was repaired was also dodge. The third stat however seems to be working perfectly now so all sorted but thanks for your help

cheers

I have not directly touching the heat mat but just under the substrate along with the thermometer.

Not really, the probe is on the floor so it makes no differance. I have my thermometer probe stuck down too. Having them still gives you a lot more control and accuracy when altering the stat.

Thats abit drastic ain't it Matty? Do you not have any issues when you need to remove any of the equipment?

yes one problem is over heating as matty said, thats solved by not having a thick layer of substrate.

Yes, but make sure the probe is in direct contact with the mat. I have stuck mine down with aquarium selant so that the snake can't move it and cause the mat to over heat.

I have mine on top of the substrate I think its a bit safer and it dosnt read it to be too hot when it is not in the viv, see what everyone else thinks.

so mat substrate probe yeah?

If the mat is in a viv, put it directly on the mat (and you only want a very small amount of substrate scattered over it).
