My boy Colin has just shed and it's the first time in a long long time that he didn't have a toilet break in the middle of the shed (although he made up for it just afterwards!!), so I was able to remove the skin and measure it against myself. It was actually taller than me, and I'm 5"11, and I wasn't stretching the skin at all.
I'm positive that he isn't 6 foot long, so is it usual for the skin to stretch as he sheds or am I underestimating how long he really is!!??
Why can't they justlie down in a straight line so we can get the measuring tape out huh!

Thanks all for your replies and comments - much appreciated. Colin is about 7 now - if the pet shop were correct - they said he was 1 when I bought him (I still say him, even though I now think Colin is possibly a girl!!).
He was curled up in 3 lengths earlier and each length was approx 2/3rds of the 3 foot viv, so based on this and the deduction formula, I guess he is about 5 & 1/2 foot.
I don't think he is a cross breed, but I'm pretty sure the pet shop wouldn't have told me if he was either!!

my OAP corn is about 5'6" too.........it's not uncommon but much more than that and i'd certainly start to question their breeding!

Of course I read the first post...I read all the posts. That is why I am wondering if Colin is a corn cross!

If that is so then I wonder whether he is pure corn or crossed with something like a rat snake? How old is Colin now?

That's it, I new there was some percentage you subtracted but didn't want to say the wrong answer. So if it is 6ft then he will be 5ft 6 or so.

The skin does stretch as they shed. You need to measure the length of the shed and then deduct 10% to get approx length of snake.

the shed will stretch, looks like you have a big boy though, or girl
