I asked this yesterday in another thread but it got missed...

If you fed your cornsnake a mouse that was too big would it refuse to eat it?

Or would it eat it and injure its insides?

Does it know what it can and cant eat? ie if you gave a fuzzy too early?

Thanks

Smaller yet more food items will be more effort for her to eat and digest, IMO.

Keep her on 2x double pinks till her next shed then move her up to a fuzzy. that's what I would do.

Thanks kellog.

To be honest i think she will be fine on fuzzys, shes got a great appetite anyway. And the first time i gave her a pinkie, it seemed huge! Lol.

Will check out that video, thanks.

I know it is totally different to your Stella moving onto fuzzies, but if you look in the video section you will see a topic on Kellog's 1st feed outside the viv...and the size difference between him and a jumbo mouse. It took him nearly 10mins to eat that time, but now is eating them quicker as he has adapted to their size.

OK thanks alot.

I will go a little over the figures on the guide. I dont want to feed her something too big.

The guide gives what I'd say is a ballpark figure.
Don't take it totally as spot on accurate, but it's fairly good.
Obviously snakes grow at different rates so there is a margin for difference.

Okay thanks.

How accurate is the guide '24g snake for fuzzys'

Like i said, she will be at least 26g before i offer a fuzzy but they still look too big to me.

It is normally 1.5 times the widest point, yes.
But that is at the MAXIMUM size. It can be hard sometimes to judge the size of the food to the snake, if you're ever unsure, then it's easier not to take the risk, and go for smaller food items.

The pinkies she is on now look about twice the size of her head! Lol.

I thought it was 1 1/2 times there widest point? I may be wrong too.

Its suprising what they can fit in. I think the rule is anything upto 1 1/2 times the size of their head for safe feeding. If im wrong im sure someone will correct me.

Thanks.

My corn Stella is almost ready for Fuzzies. She devours 2 x Pinkies every 5 days. She will be about 26g-28g before i offer a pinkie, but they look WAY too big for her! Lol.

Maybe its just me,

But i cant see how its gonna fit in.

Thanks

Most snakes given the chance will try to eat something to big.
Depending on how big it is also depends on if they manage to eat it, they can cause some damage either through impaction from eating food that is to big, or from regurgitating it.
