Hello All,

Just a quick feeding Question.

Stella is almost ready for the move to Fuzzys i think, she is devouring 2 medium
sized pinkies and not leaving much of a bump after. She weighed 22g last night.

I have got 4 bags left in my freezer...

1 Medium Pinkie and 1 Large Pinkie (Large is almost fuzzy sized)
2 Large Pinkies (Both almost Fuzzy sized)
3 Small Pinkies (about as small as Fuzzys come)
1 Fuzzy.

If she takes the 2 Large Pinkies (in 2 feeds) then would it be okay to offer 3
3 small pinkies in one go? All 3 weigh less than the 2 large ones put together
but is it okay to offer 3 at once?

This is just whats left in my freezer so want to use them up.

By the time the fuzzy comes round (3 feeds) i estimate she will be about 26g
looking at her growth rate so far.

Thanks

Gaz

as a guide the MAXIMUM size a food item should be is NO MORE than 1.5 times the thickness of the snake at it's widest point

hope this helps put your mind at rest hun

Thanks alot for the advice GP.

I dont plan on 'forcing' her to move on to fuzzys too soon, just worried that when i think shes ready, she may not be.

Thanks

they'll try to get it down..........

if they decide they can't (which could take a while) they'll eventually give up and leave it

if they persevere (again, which could take a while) and it eventually goes down it's best to monitor them closely, make sure the temps are spot-on, not handle them for and extra couple of days and stretch their next feed out for a few more days too

Anyone?

Good Question Kellog! Would be interesting to know.

Also, will a corn snake take prey too big for it? Ie; if i offer a fuzzy and she isnt ready for it, will she turn it down? Or will she take it and it make her ill?

Or if she takes it down ok will she be fine?

Thanks

the bones in a pinkie (or 3!) will have barely started to ossify (be made solid with calcium) so the nutritional aspect isn't a huge problem

Thanks GP, . Didnt think it could be an issue with pinkies, but would it be an issue once you have moved onto larger 'prey'?

(just trying to keep learning !!)

Thanks for the replys,

Its only going to be a one-off feeding before she goes onto Fuzzys anyway.

The 3 pinkies weigh about 8 grams total, and the 2 pinkies she will be having the feed before weigh 9 grams total so theres little difference in total amount.

Like i say, once the pinkies are gone i will try her with a fuzzy.

Thanks

I dont know anything about this so would be interested in knowing if there would there be any concern about Stella not getting enough nutrition from 3 pinkies (if she needs to be on a fuzzy) and that she would be digesting too much calcium from eating 3 skeletons?

as they are super small pinkies then 3 wont be a problem.. i have given edison 3 pinkies before as they were the only ones i had left and they were poor ecuses for pinkies..
if it were 3 large pinkies then for a snake stella's size would be a no no

Hmmm, I don't THINK it would do any harm. BUT, sometimes if snakes take pinkies or mice and it's too long to digest they can regurge, so I wouldn't if she is still small.

3 will be fine as hilliz stated

I honestly dont know if 3 is good or bad, I might be thinking of feeding 2 and then after the 48 hours see if he will take another one ?

I am no expert though so Im sure someone will be back with a more sensible answer soon.

Im not ready for another hathcling yet mate.

If people say three pinkies is a bad idea then i will chuck them, i wouldnt get another hatchling just to use up 3 pinkies, lol.

Thanks

Or what you could do is buy another hatchling and then your sorted for what to do with the pinkies ???

Just a thought.

Sorry when i said about the 3 x Small Pinkies, i meant they are about as small as pinkies come, not fuzzys, lol.
