Posted - 29/12/2009 : 09:42:38 Hey guys, im buying my first snake today hoefully and ive done quite abit of research but one thing is still bothering me.
My house is quite often very cold, so how will the non heated end of my tank deal with it? Is the temperature of it going to be too low? Or will it stay the same due to the heat mat? Can i buy a heater to keep that end regular?
What do people recommend i do to help this?
Thanks |

leave it alone if it was staying in the warm end.............
BUT if it was staying in the cold end and i didn't want to brumate it initially i'd try moving it to the warm end. if it persisted and kept returning to its cold hide then i'd put a mat in (on another stat set to about 22-23*C ish) and monitor for signs of illness. for example, it could be staying in the cool end to reduce symptoms of an RI......... |

Posted - 30/12/2009 : 20:49:08 if the snake was spending all its time in the cold end and the cold end WAS particularly cold then i'd do something about it, but generally they know what's good for them and go where its warmer |

Posted - 30/12/2009 : 12:19:47 There would be a lower limit beyond which it would be too cold for the snake, unless you're preparing for breeding: body functions would slow down. I'm not comfortable letting the cold end go below 20c.

Posted - 29/12/2009 : 13:44:16 It's NOT AS important as the warm end, If your'e worried place some hides in the middle of the tank too, so it will be half and half warm and cool

Posted - 29/12/2009 : 12:21:08 TBH i'd just concentrate on keeping the warm end in the right temp range and not worry about the cool end temp unless there's a particular issue with the snake (which is unlikely ) |

My cold end ranges 16-18 and my corn seems fine.
