would it be ok to put 2 substrates in my starter kit? (aspen & beech chippings) half n half

a mixture of substrates is fine, i use paper and beech chippings in some of my vivs, although as sammysnake mentioned kitchen roll is often easier for hatchies in tubs....

If you're still planning to get a hatchling then I believe kitchen roll is a better substrate until he/she gets bigger (please correct me if I'm wrong guys).

I did.

watch out for beech in paticular near the waterbowl, if they get too soggy mould could build up and we wouldn't want that now..
