Posted - 18/12/2009 : 16:39:46 I think the majority would say yes, even with lots of hides it COULD stess the snake out. You need lots of cover, plants, logs etc etc. And even then i think that a smaller viv would be better.
What is your particular situation? ie what size snake are you trying to put in what size viv?

Posted - 18/12/2009 : 16:21:15 so it would stress them if you have a big viv for a small snake if lots off hides |

Posted - 18/12/2009 : 15:28:00 Yes, that is why you put plenty of stuff into the vivarium.
Unfortunately too many people fail to get the concept of what they are trying to do- they opt for making the viv look pretty rather than providing the snakes with its needs- shy animals need cover under which they can safely move from place to place. Putting lots of hides in is useless if there is no safe way to move between them.
This is what causes stress. Snakes will only move out of necessity, not for fun. In captivity, snakes have no need to hunt, therefore no need to expose themselves, therefore need to move less. |

Posted - 18/12/2009 : 14:52:24 yea but thats y you put hides in the vivarium in the first place it dont stop any body from geting a big vivarium |

Posted - 18/12/2009 : 14:49:17 because snakes are agoraphobic and choose to live in cramped, cosy spaces eg: holes, under logs etc.
How often do you see a wild snake sitting out in the open looking nice and relaxed? Big spaces stress them out. |
