Hi
Thinking about getting a corn snake in the new year, after lots of research and advice from this forum.
Would you recommend a male or female as a solitary pet snake? Why? What are the differences between the two character wise?

Agreed GP, again.  can't use their character as a way of sexing them.
Also age is a factor Blaze is 14 months and is out whenever the lights go off, you wont see him when 48 hours after din dins though. he's been out since 5 pm and still racing around.
Blitz.. well.. seems to sleep all the time but i dont know what he does at 3am as im sleeping. |

they do all have different personalities but as a very sweeping generalisation my boys are often out more than the girls who i only see out when they're hungry........... |

Our male is happy to curl up in the plants or under the rock hide but our female prefers to make a break for it through the vents  lol! |

either sex will be fine on their own.. i have males and females and the only differences i have noticed so far is that they have different characters |

Best solitary, dont want no babies, and plus if the female is too small, she could potentially die from not being able to pass the eggs.
No way to tell just by looking at them, males tend to have longer tails from vent to tip, but please dont use this, it's not accurate.
best way to get them checked is 'popping' or 'probing' done by a specialisted. I wouldn't try this yourself. |

No real difference between either, character wise.
Although quite often some people find that some male snakes go through a fasting period in the beginning of the year, but this is normally only for a short while leading towards the mating season. |
