some have cut-outs that you push through the lid or you cut a small hole...

might sound daft but how do u get the thermometer probe in a faunarium without the snake escaping?

my hot end thermostat probe is directly on my mat with my stat probe both are fixed in place, that way the mat will always be same temp, i do it this way as marmalade liked to crawl under them when they were ontop of the substrate and lift them up causeing mat to get hotter

the thermostat probe should either be on the substrate at the warm end, OR directly on the mat. Either way, you need a digital thermometer at substrate level so you can set the stat accordingly. ignore any numbers on the stat and go off the reading you get with the thermometer.

a dial therm you might as well throw it in the bin! they are notoriously inaccurate

but the thermometer should be where the snake is so if it's in a faun measure the temps in the faun.......

Yep Digitals are much better, i use these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DIGITAL-THERMOMETER-FAST-POSTAGE_W0QQitemZ330376515889QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects?hash=item4cebf99131 total bargin and really quick delivery too, and your thermostat probe should be on the substrate as this is where your snake is. Hope this helps.

Ive got my mat-stat probe in the substrate, in the hot hide.

I went digital yesterday from my dials, and the dials were way out, reading 22c in hot end, when its actually 29c.

n/a Posted - 24/11/2009 : 12:51:41
which is better, dial or digital?

One should be on the hot end where the snake can go, the other on the cool end.

So in or under each end of the faunarium.
