Corns prefer belly heat, same way as adult royals do better with lamps (I think). Also, studies have shown that heat absorption via conduction (from the ground) is more effective than radiation the sun (or bulb)

probably cost less than all the other stuff too lol. Just out of interest, is there any reason its better for corns? Xx

In that case I would stick with a heat mat, they are better for corns.

some people say get a ceramic bulb and then either get uv lights and dim them or just normal lights.

We also use mats, but another thermostat will be a must for the bulb, along with a really good guard. The gaps in the guard will have to be smaller than your snakes head, as otherwise they'll be able to get through it - amazing escape artists!

either a infrared or a heat emitting make sure you get a dimming stat an it will need a guard

i think the best light for corns is usually a red bulb as they cant see the red but will get the heat but i dont use a bulb yet so im sure someone else will help you more
oh yeah but dont forget to have a really secure guard like zandefloss has said if its for a hatchling be extra careful - they are very good at getting into tiny spaces!
zandefloss Posted - 19/11/2009 : 17:08:18
a well fitting, secure, non penetrable guard is ESSENTIAL, you need to be 100% sure the snake can't get inside and close to the bulb or your snake could get serious burns or die, otherwise I'm not so sure on anything additional you need - I use a heatmat so it is better for people who use bulbs to give advice regarding any other precautions/equiptment needed.
