just cleaned out my two snakes (a corn 4 years, and a king 1.5 years) and saw a flea on the corn snake.I know it wasn't a mite,we had them when i got the king from a shop.My dog must have picked them up,as dogs do,and somehow one got into the viv.I know mites get between the scales, and fleas are too big,but could they bite through? The dog's in the b.a.t.h. as I write, btw.

I just make sure That the Vivs are thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant, on a regular basis.
I think if the surfaces are cleaned regularly then it is harder for mites and Fleas to survive.
So far it seems to be working as All my reptiles are clean and free from parasites.

NO Frontline is definately not for use on snakes, I was just refering to Pob's Dad who said it doesn't work on his dog. If it's the correct size for the dog & used correctly it is the best.
I've seen cat's poisened when their owners used Frontline for dogs on them so who knows what it would do to a snake

Would definitely use frontline on my dog - there is really no other way to beat fleas on them....but I would rather try the bath technique on a snake first before resorting to chemicals.

How do you use frontline on a snake ...do you treat it the same as a dog or cat?

Tango hates baths and tubs of any description & poo's straight away when I do manage to get him in one - he goes like the clappers to get out as soon as his skin touches water or plastic, and when I have put him in the bath as I have on two occassions since I first had him, he climbs straight back up the sides, grabs at anything he can and hauls himself out... funny for me to watch, but not too amusing to him, so I try to refrain from doing it!

However, once he has had his mickey, he will often 'swim' his head round and round his water bowl, and seems as though he's having great fun doing this... so who knows???

Haven't had my baby snow long enough to try this yet though... she does not come out of her hide too much at the mo, so although she's fine once I get her out, I don't want to to overface her when she's still very new to us.... can't wait to try her though

Its nice giving them a bath now and again, I bath mine if only to give them a little bit of moisture before they shed. Some corns love the water other... well get the camera out in case you get tagged

Shallow water so the snake can keps its hed avove the water! And the temp should be no warmer then the warm end of the viv. Make sure you use a themomitor to check the temp! Let snake slitehr about in the water for 10-15 mins ish. Then remove and let it slither throught some towels. Or I Pop mine in an old Pillow case to dry them as they are only baby's it just makes it a bit easier to dry them1 Then back in the viv!

Just out of curiosity how do you bath a snake???
Kellog Posted - 17/11/2009 : 22:30:52
Would advise you to treat as same as mites to be safe, clean viv, put on kitchen roll instead of substrate and bath snake a few times. Have battled mites and hope I never have to do it again! Would rather do the bath than use chemicals if possible.

Must be the flea season! I just found one on George tonight. I shall not be putting the cats in the bath however; I value my hands. A dose of Frontline all round tomorrow, methinks.
