Hi all, I'm just coming to the end of the first week with Twilight and I think he's done pretty much one of everything! He's settled really well and seems to be a really confident little snake. On the first morning after I got him I saw him have a drink of water. He's had two poos and has been actively investigating every inch of his tank every evening. His tank is in our bedroom as we usually spend all evening there and he seems to get really active when we start watching TV - I've missed all the telly all week as I'm spending all my time watching him instead.

On Friday morning I had a big surprise as he had shed in the night! I had no idea he was going to do it - he didn't appear pale and his eyes looked normal to me but as I can't really handle him yet I guess I haven't got a good idea of what colour he should be. It was all crumpled up but I managed to spread it out and it was complete - tail tip and eyes and everything. My daughter took it to school for show-and-tell.

Tonight I weighed him (8g) and fed him and he took his first pinky within a couple of minutes of being in a tub with it. He even let me watch him. I was really worried he wouldn't manage it as he started at the back end and it looked really big even though I'd selected the smallest pinky I had.

Anyway, sorry for the essay. I expect all you experienced owners are smiling in a *annoying baby voice* 'ahh-isn't-it-sweet-the-little-newbie-is-all-excited' kind of way but I don't care - I AM really excited. My snake is sooooo cool.

Thats fantastic news Sammysnake! Twilight sounds as though he is one very settled and happy snake! I am not surprised you thought he was choking (you and SB) I was amazed when Kellog fed for the first time, I really didnt see how he was going to get the mouse down, but then you see how they stretch their jaws and almost 'jaw walk' down the mouse. It really is an unbelievable thing to witness. And a full shed as well!! You couldnt ask for more for your 1st experiences!! xxx

Yes. The yawning after eating is to get the jaw back in place. And congratulatios on the success with Twilight.

( Laughing hysterically at Sexybear. I've got visions in my head of you panicking, asking your dad to pull the pinkie out.lol. Not taking the mick. Just the vision amused me )

Hi SexyBear, I must admit I told my husband it looked like he was choking (Twilight, not my husband!). It was really fascinating to watch, I'm really happy he was relaxed enough to let me do that.

Afterwards, Twilight opened his mouth wide a few times. Is that to get his jaw back in line?

Thanks Mnementh for explaining about the blue phase - I assumed they were blue until they shed just like my dragon is pale for a week or so until he sheds. Didn't realise they went blue then back to normal before shedding.

I remember Caspers first feed as a hatchling, I was hysterical when he was "choking" on the pinkie, and started screaming for my Dad to pull it back out lol. glad to hear twilight is doing so well, he sounds like a very lucky little snake!

Thats brilliant :)

He had probably gone through the "blue phase" when you bought him , so would have been in the clear , I dont look like I'm shedding phase :) Takes about 3 days to a week or so to shed after blue .

My daughters took a shed in to school last week for the same thing .

Yeah one of mine is an hatchling and you dont believe they could get the smallest of pinkies down , but they suprise you :)
