Posted - 14/09/2009 : 10:34:10 New to all this and have a another question, am aquiring a cornsnake on friday, we have the viv, subsrate, places to hide/climb. only thing to but now is what heat source do we buy, i have a heatmat and lamp, do i need a thermostat, if so can anyone recommend one/make. The snake i understand is 1-2 yrs old, i feel it is nearly 2 as the chap has had it for 12 months. what size food will it eat, this is all new to me and i want to be sure that we do the right thing by the snake. So i need as much info from snake pros than i can get. The snake is actually going to be my sons, but i feel i may be the main carer. will the snake get used to just one person handling it or will the whole family be able to handle it, i say it as i have no idea what sex 'it' is. |

Posted - 15/09/2009 : 10:01:21 Thanks for the advice, i am not at all afraid of snakes, more afraid of the driving instructor than snakes. Im sure that it will be happy here, and that we will have a lovely snake that is friendly and responsive to human touch...either that or i will have a snake dngling off my thumb LOL |

Just dont touch its head or tail end as they dont like that. I am only a newbie but am sure 'those who know' will confirm what I have said. xxx |

Posted - 14/09/2009 : 12:30:12 heatmats i think are easier to control and maintain good temps with, lights are generally used for our benefit so we can see them if hes around two im thinking he will be on smallish mice? but the rep man will be able to tell you when you pick him up if you ask |

Posted - 14/09/2009 : 10:38:40 you do not need 2 heat sources, a mat will be just fine. you deffo need a stat, a mat stat. habistat are good as are microclimate. |
