thicker substrate........
a piece of lino/tile over the mat........
even a few sheets of newspaper over the top of it as a temporary fix

BTW i have a brand new matstat for sale.......

I always struggled to keep the hot end up to temperature until I read a few things on here and took some advice and realised I had way too much substrate over the mat and was stopping the heat coming through. You could put more substrate over the mat until your stat arrives, although it would be simpler to turn the mat off if its only for a short time.

Yep, a bit chilly is better than fried rep.

i would switch it off if it's not on a stat,as long as it aint been fed recently and just keep the room warm
