I've had my three corn's for years now and generally know what i'm doing.. i always use hemp bedding for them but recently have had to use hay as a substitute as i have no hemp available at the moment. Is this okay for the time being or can hay be harmful to my snakes?

I'd appreciate help :)

thanks.

Get a paper shredder and all the papers you need to shred can be used as a substitute. Hay is very dusty and can give us humans respiratory problems it can seriously affect a snakes breathing, costing a fortune in vet fees.

I personally wouldnt use hay, as (as said above) its really dusty, and if old can also go a bit "fousty" and harbours harmful spores which can affect breathing. plenty of alternatives out there! I use either aspen or beech chippings.

I agree with Kehly; use either ripped up newspaper or sheets of kitchen roll, which both are cheap, and sbsorbent.

Or you can use Aspen, Orchid Bark, theres plenty more on the care sheet.

This was also a question I asked many moons ago.
The dust particles could potentially cause problems, as well as whatever manner of mites/bugs could be living in the hay.

Just use some newspaper, rip or shred it up and drop it in the viv instead. Much better, and cheaper as well.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.
