Posted - 23/07/2009 : 19:08:57 Hey guys, im a busy little poster today! Just another quick post about something that has been bothering me...
A few months ago i decided Cherry was ready to move up to Fuzzys. So i went to my local reptile shop and asked for a few bags of fuzzys. Now these things looked pretty big to me but i tried them with her and after a lot of struggling she got one down. But each feed has seemed like a real struggle for her. then it got to the stage where she was acting proper scared when i tried to feed her them. darting away if i put one anywhere near her. I looked at people's pics of their corns eating fuzzys and the fuzzy's they were feeding seemed much smaller and much less fuzzy than the ones id been given. But the girl in the shop insisted they were the right ones. So i persevered. However when i went into the shop last week it was a different guy serving me and the 'fuzzys' he gave me are tiny compared to what ive been trying to feed the poor girl! Im so annoyed! so ive now come to the conclusion that i missed a whole stage of mice and went straight from pinkies to, umm, whatever comes after fuzzys. grrrr. no wonder she was reluctant to eat them. Anyways now i feel awful and am wondering if it may have done any physical or psychological damage to her having to eat prey too big for her? Also should i continue with the big ones or move back down to the actual fuzzys? poor little Cherry! |

Posted - 28/07/2009 : 12:36:52 I went back to the shop I got the "fuzzies" from and asked to see their fuzzies. I got things that were a bit bigger than a pinky and with fuzz. FAR smaller than the ones I'd originally been sold, which I now think must be weaners. I got 20 fuzzies though and Bella wolfed her first ever fuzzy down no problem last night. I'm a proud mummy :D |

Posted - 27/07/2009 : 19:19:37 Well this is related to my predicament I was in today at the shop I go to.
I asked for small mice; they brought out.. well.. almost fully grown mice.
then i asked for weaner rats.. these biggun's had tails developed and all black and hairy. Were i usualy go to; their weaners are bigger than fuzzies with hair on...
then i asked for fuzzies.. now fuzzies you can see light hairs and a lot of pink.. these little things i got had full coat of hair...
I'm really confused - I think the shops have their own meanings of "fuzzies" and "weaners"
Scott - I chose the biggest ones in the pot, the assistant looked miffed as the others were all titchy!!
Just try her and see what happens :) |

Posted - 27/07/2009 : 18:01:18 most decent rep shops will let you choose the size by hand if you ask nicely, my local even opens up the prepacked for me if they ain't got the right size loose. |

Posted - 27/07/2009 : 17:56:01 The trouble is different shops have different size pinkies/ fuzzies etc so when you ask for fuzzies you dont know what size they will be. The shop i go to now give me a bag and then i pick out the size i need. Might be worth asking them if you can do that. |

Posted - 27/07/2009 : 12:38:34 I think the same happened to me with Bella. We were told when we got her that she was on fuzzies so I bought some and the poor wee snake took an HOUR to eat one! We didn't know until after that this was FAR TOO BIG - poor Bella! I have no idea how she managed to eat one, and she was fatty little snake for a good five or six days :( She was OK in the end though. We took her down to pinkies, and after a bit of experience now I think what we were sold as fuzzies were the next ones up; they're definitely got fur and not just fuzz. She's been on two pinkies for a while now so I'm going to try and get some actual fuzzies and try her on those after the next feed. |

Posted - 25/07/2009 : 13:01:37 yeah im a bit annoyed at the shop to be honest. As a specialist reptile shop they shouldnt be making those kinds of mistakes. But it sounds like no real harm done then. She's in shed at the moment but when she's doen i'll try her on the smaller ones and see how we go :) Thanks for the advice guys |

In between fuzzy`s and small mice you can get crawlers think the girl must have mistaken them for fuzzy`s, which isn`t good really. |
