How often should I be handling noodle to get her used to me?
She's about 2 months old and I've owned her just over a week.
She's had her first feed (wasnt a strike as she was scared, but ate when left to her own devices).
I've handled her for 10 mins on sat,sun and mon but its hard to tell if she's distressed or not.
She fidgets for a minute or so, then settles down a bit (but still slithers round slowly looking around)
I dont want to over do the handling but at the same time I want to spend as much time with her as possible.

I am lucky in as much as Colins viv is right next to where i sit. I used to have to physically get him out but these days he lets me know when he wants to come out by hanging around the front glass. I just open the door and he comes out all of his own accord and when he ready to go back in again he does. I had him out tonight and after about 15 mins he headed back in. That way the handling is all on his terms not mine. Thats just how I do it as it works for both of us but if it helps he "prefers" to come out about 3 to 4 times a week usually for about 10 to 15 mins then heads back in.

Sometimes they have to 'learn' how to strike which can be encouraged by wiggling the mousey.
5 mins a day tops, I get mine out every other day for a few mins to check em over. I'm happy that theyr'e healthy and tolerate being handled but also theyr'e not stressed and can still act like a snake, not like a toy.
that's my opinion, anyway. Less human contact the better, but whats the point in having a pet snake if you can't handle him, at least?  |

Twilight didn't strike at all for his first few feeds. I just left it on some paper and he glided over and put his mouth on it! Now I wiggle the prey a little and he'll come up close and then lunge for it a bit. My new snake Saracen is 7 months or so older and he strikes with a vengeance when I wiggle his food and constricted the last one. I think striking is something they learn and develop as they get older but it seems from what other people have said in the past that each snake feeds differently according to personality. As long as they are eating, I personally wouldn't worry how they do it. |

Just be aware that overhandling can dry the skin. I held my first baby LOADS, I just couldn't get enough - then I noticed that her sheds were starting to become more difficult and I was told it was probably due to overhandling. It's always the same with a new snake...think of it like having a new bf or gf, the first few months you're overcome with passion and can't keep your hands off each other, after that the novelty wears off a bit and it becomes a case of quality over quantity lol
In all seriousness though, agree with everything already posted - prob 10-20 mins a day should be fine for the snake, even if it leaves you wanting more! (You could always get more snakes!)  |

I'd have in my hands all evening if it were up to me.
Ah well, I guess I'm just excited to have her and she's still the 'new toy'
I'll have to ration myself, I keep telling myself I have her for the next 15-20 years (with luck) so no point in rushing things
