Posted - 19/12/2015 : 18:34:01 What are people thoughts on the "no handling for 7 days" rule, when you get your new snake home?
I personally have never stuck to it and handle them in the shop, when I get them him and then twice daily until they have had a feed.
I've never seen the sense in not handling a timid snake what needs on thing above anything else - handling.
Maybe I've been lucky and had fairly confident youngsters. My three previous corns were all fairly happy being handled and were good feeders. My latest hatchie is no different. Got him home on Thursday. Handled him yesterday and today and offered him a small fuzzy tonight which he took very eagerly.
He will now get left alone until he has passed his meal.

Posted - 20/12/2015 : 19:06:07 Not so much of a rule, more guideline... Every snake is different, and will react differently. If yours is a confident hatchie, and you've had snakes before, so you can tell if he's stressed or not - then handle him.
Saying that, I've always liked to let mine settle for a bit ( though not necessarily 7 days ) and the smallest hatchies are probably better handled less, there's always time for handling when they grow more robust :-) |
