Hey guys,
Nagini (my snow corn) had her first shed with us on Wednesday and she made a total mess of it. I knew she was in blue so had left her to her own devices for a week and then noticed that part way down her tail there was a flap of old skin, like she had torn it before actually starting to shed. At this point I wasnt too worried and figured she would start shedding overnight and it would just be in a few pieces.. after all, she only moved in a month ago and had a mite problem so presumed this was inevitable.
The next day I came home and there was nothing, she hadnt moved and certainly hadnt shed... just still had that one flap of dead skin. I dunked her in the bath hoping to kickstart her shedding and nothing... whatsoever. The next morning I got up and nothing still... so I went off to work and came back to find her curled up in a hide having shed a few pathetic strips of skin... all from odd places on her belly or sides.
I fished her out and tried encouraging her to move around.. but there she sat, content on the sofa with a couple of rough hides and no intention of moving.
At this point I had a quick google session, filled up the bottom of a small rub with water and put in a rough hide, chucked her in it and left her for 10 mins to see what she would do. Still nothing. Nada.
It being about 10pm at this point I figured I couldnt leave her any longer as she had started to shed but still had the majority left so I picked her up and starting rubbing down near her neck (as she had shed her headpiece - in two goes - earlier). Eventually the skin started to loosen and I was able to hold her (a little tighter than you would normally) so that she just slithered out of her skin.
Im a little worried that she wasnt trying at all to shed herself and was also so happy to have me rubbing at her trying to get skin off; as shes normally still a little touchy about me going near her head - but let me loosen the skin without moving or complaining.
Her temps are all normal, she had a wet hide, she has a water bowl she can easily soak herself in and she has plenty of deco to rub against. I cant think of anything that could be stopping her - any advice? |

Fuzzy has the occasional bad shed... It's quite normal.
The key areas are that the eye caps are off and that there is no skin left on the tail tip.
Sphagnum moss is a useful material for creating a more humid temporary hide whilst in shed.
Our pets really do a good job of worrying us! |

At this stage I wouldn't worry about it too much. If she does it again next shed then a bit more investigation needs to take place but it may have just been a one off. |

I must admit to being a bit baffled by her not wanting to/being able to shed. I will call on those who know more  .
