So I have the exo terra large flat faun (with a divider) which i'll be setting up soon. Wondering if anyone has used these before - and if so, how on earth do you get the heatmat and stat cables in?! The holes would probably fit the cable, but obv a heatmat isn't gona fit through that lol. And the stat sensor I think is a tad too big to get through too.
Any ideas?
I can ask the shop I'm buying from, but would like the set up ready before I collect snakey! |

I use felt to fill holes in it makes a very good blocker and you can squeeze it down really tight |

Have a look at stickies - setting up a hatchling corn snake 101. It shows how to drill a hole in the faun lid, and the whole set up. I did this for mine, when they were little, and it worked a treat. I believe it's safest to have the stat and thermometer probes inside, where the snake will be, because that's where you want to control and monitor the temperature.
One thing - the stat probe is thicker than the wire, so once the probe is threaded through, there is a small gap between the cable and the hole... I rolled a bit of tissue, and stuffed it through. I kept it long, so if the snake started pushing at the tissue, it just scrunched up. I have also secured the tissue with a tape, but only on the outside of the faun. It worked fine, never had the snakey pushing it out.
The downside of this method is, that if you decide to take the whole lid off the faunarium, you are also removing the probes... Upside being the precise control of temperature. I did try with the probes outside, too, but the air gap meant the temperature inside the faun really varied, according to the room temperature. |

I have the mat outside the faun and the stat and thermometer probe inside the faun. I drilled a hole for the stat probe but then wrapped elastic bands around the cable and pushed them into the hole from the inside to secure it Worked for all my lot. No escapees yet *touch wood* |

I used to have the mat and stat probe outside the faun and the thermometer probe inside (through the hole) secured to the floor directly above the mat. The faun can be raised a bit if the stat probe is under it but you can overcome this by getting a slightly larger mat (or rotate the mat 90deg sometimes works) so some of the mat hangs outside the faun and have the probe attached to the mat just to the edge of the faun. As you are monitoring the temp inside the faun, where the stat probe is positioned is irrelevant. |

Yeah I'm thinking if the stat is outside and temp gauge inside that should be ok, as what I want is the temperature of where hoggy will be.
I wouldn't want to enlarge the hole in the lid, as this is how my first corn escaped  I was not as experienced when this happened, and was told by the shop I got him from he'd be fine in the faun they gave me with the holes for the wires etc.
I'm sure I'd be able to secure it properly, but I'm overly paranoid after Freddie getting away! |

I enlarged the hole in the lid for the cables, put the cables through then stuffed it up so it was secure.
I tried the sensors underneath and felt they lifted the faun - and I wanted to know the temps the snake would have. Although I think, with hindsight I'd probably have been happy with the temp one inside and the stat outside on the mat! |

My babies is fauns have the heat cable and stat probe underneath, and I check the temp inside a few times a week. |
