the pet shop had Glover on rat pups, but i've read they can be fatty, whats the equivalent size mouse, after 2 and half days the bump had totally gone and he pooped today,if i've weighed him correctly he's 55 grams 11 months old,he looks healthy, and going by the diagrams i seen about the shape he should be ,he looks the right shape to,how often should i feed him?

ok fed him least night ,didn't really seem hungry at first or it could have been to much going on as kids were still going about making a noise,so i left the rat in his tub and when i went back to check it was gone,so i got the other rat pup out the fridge and he nearly took my hand off like he'd never seen food before lol ,so he's now FAT ,so i think i'll need to up the food size

lol,i weighed the rat pups and 2 weigh in at 13g ,when i fed him last week the rat was a little plump thing but these ones are skinny wee pups, should i try him on 2? or get something smaller and have a rat and a pinkie or just stick to 1 just now?

Might be a bit too crunchy, though ;-)

If you don't want your corn to have the rats then don't let them go to waste, make yourself some nice pastry, wrap them in it and put in the oven for about 30 mins at 180 deg C and hey presto rat rolls

(or just give them to the snake )

I'd use the rats. As Moppet said, no point in wasting them

only have 3 left,he doesn't look podgy at all

Personally I would use up the rat pups first. No sense in wasting them. How many do you have? I would just keep an eye on how chubby your snake is looking and if he is looking a bit podgy then space out the feeds using rat pups a bit further apart.

I go by bump size

Emmy is 90g and still on 2 fuzzies, but she's quite long and still slim so a bit scared to try her on smalls just yet. 2 fuzzies still leave a fairly big bump on her!

According to my " size guide table ", corn snake that weighs between 41 - 70 g ( yours ) would be eating roughly 10 - 12 g of food, which is the equivalent of 1 mouse hopper, or 2 mouse fuzzies, every 6 -7 days.

At 71 - 130 g, he'll need about 12 - 14 g, which is 1 small mouse a week.

130 - 200 g - 1 x medium mouse a week etc.

Best way is to see if the food still leaves a bump, when it's swallowed all the way down to the stomach. Once it doesn't leave a bump, he can go a size up. :-)
