So "Dave" is a big lad. He's around 3yrs old and 699g.

Any idea on how often he should be fed?

So glad he ate ok in the tub, even if it took him a while. He's going to be waiting awhile for his next course .

So Dave was fed tonight. He was drop fed before and I think in the viv.
I put him in a tub. Tried to entice him to strike, but he wasn't having any of it. Left him and after a bit sniffing about he took the mouse.
Now he's mooching round his viv looking for the next course. Lol.

All 3 of mine are fed 1 extra large mouse every 2-3 weeks and are all living well on that. They all look well and are always active apart from when in blue.

I'd agree with Moppet. If they are medium mice then 2 a week is too much. Even if they're small mice it's unnecessary. When I got Asher he was being fed 4 medium mice a week ! Obviously that changed . Personally I'd do a few weekly feeds of mediums to get him eating and then see whether he's ready to move up to large mice and a longer gap between feeds.

If you're worried about him being overweight checkout this thread - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11891

Hope that helps.

So based on that he's possibly been over fed, how do I tell if he's over weight? He looks healthy and is active and we had a complete shed today.

Wow, 2 a week sounds like a lot to me. My adolescent (still growing quite fast) snakes get 1 large every 7-14 days and my adult female is currently getting 2 large every 7-14 days (she laid 26 eggs this year and still needs building up!) but she would normally get 1 large every 2 weeks (sometimes every 3 weeks if she's getting a bit squidgy).

So far I've not fed him as he only came home on Monday.
I was given two mice that are probably medium. I need to weigh them. The previous owner said he was on 2 a week. Which I thought seemed a bit much.

The grumpy Scotsman is right, of course . My adults are fed on medium mice every fortnight. What are you feeding him?
