Hi. I'm getting a little worried. Fizz has now refused her last two feeds. I'd put her onto smalls for two feeds all fine. Then she refused the next feed, then the next, I've been and got some fluffs from PAH to try to tempt her - she's currently in her feeding rub and she's showing no interest at all. She shed a week ago with no problems. What can I do?

So glad she's eaten  . It's always a relief when they do. I'm also glad all our 'stickies' have been so helpful and it sounds like you've got your set-up just right  .
My OH was like your son, he tried to encourage me to put a couple of mine together but I've researched cohabiting and there are just too many risks, not only the one of your female becoming gravid before she's old enough/big enough.
Well done for feeding her in her feeding RUB in her viv. Let's hope it works as well next feed day.

You're right, I certainly wouldn't put them together, especially if you suspect they could be male and female. They'd be too young to breed ( that doesn't mean that they couldn't, just means the female is too immature, and it'd be really bad for her and quite dangerous ). There's a general rule of three - the female should be at least 3 years old, 300 g +, and 3 foot + - the longer you leave it, the better.
What you've done with leaving her feeding RUB in her viv - that's one of many methods, how to get them eat :-) |

Pleased to say that she's eaten. I'd left her feeding rub in her viv with the mouse & went to work. Read all of your "Don't keep trying" posts so went to take it all away & she's eaten her fluff whilst I was out! In reply to everyone - yes, heat mat/stat/digital thermometer (read all the stickies here!) & warm end spot on 29C. Feeling so much better now - but am wondering if Fizz is in fact a boy! My son wants me to try putting Kitty & Fizz together but I can't cope with 'her' turning her nose up at a mouse, would never cope with either of them having babies! Thanks everyone, this site really is fantastic.  |

It does sound as though her refusing may be down to breeding behaviour, although it's good to check that there isn't another reason like stress from the set-up. You say the temps are ok. I'm assuming she is on a heatmat, controlled by a thermostat and monitored by a digital thermometer? What is the temperature in the warm end?
The fact that she is more active than usual is a sign that her hormones might be kicking in  . Some females do behave like this and go off their food, although it's more common with males. I wouldn't worry too much about [b][Isoldael's/b] mention of her laying infertile eggs. This does happen but it's not common.
The best thing to do is to keep offering her food on her normal feeding day, not more often because that will stress her. Giving her a prey item that is smaller than what she's used to, like the fluffs you've now bought, may tempt her to eat. I've managed to get Kellog to eat 2 smalls since the end of February, rather than the large mice he's used to. As has been said, keep a record of her weight. If it is down to breeding season then it's a 'natural fast' so she shouldn't lose much weight. This is a good way to keep an eye on her progress and spot any health issues.

Thanks, everyone. She looks as usual & temps, etc. all ok. Will try not to worry. I did wonder if she was getting ready to breed as I've noticed that she's much more active all around her viv. I did wonder if she was really a he & wanted to mate with my 100% definite female? They don't live together & are at different ends of the sitting room. |

Always worth double checking your temps and set up just to ensure there isn't an issue there but it could be time of year. Monitor weight as has been suggested and it can be tempting but try not to offer too often as this can put them off too. |

If she's a CB12, she would technically be old enough to start producing eggs. Maybe she will be laying slugs soon and has gone off her food because of that. Have you noticed her getting bigger around the back end at all? |

Try not to worry. Missing a couple of feeds is no problem for them. Just keep offering on the normal feed day.
Keep an eye on there weight as they shouldn't lose to much weight.
Finally what's the set up like. Temps. Thermometer/Stat etc? |
