My corn has been refusing food. I thought he was a male, but just discovered its a female.
Basically I've had her since she was a hatchling has had no contact with any other snake.
She has laid 20+ eggs. What is going on? I guess they are infertile and will never hatch?

I'm glad she's a good size. That's the issue I have with Silvi, keeping the weight on her. She refused to eat until after she'd done her post-lay shed but has taken 2 feeds since then  .
With her it was quite easy because Silvesta became Silvi. My OH said that it didn't matter, it wasn't as though the snake knew any different  . But once I knew she was a she I couldn't think of her like I used to and I was surprised at how easy it was to change to saying 'her' and calling her by her new name. Georgia is a nice name  .
Let us know how she gets on.

Hi thank you all for the response. Yes it does seem that a name change is in order. I have offered her a meal, but she refused. Will wait for the post shed and try again. Luckily she is a good size, so not to concerned yet about her losing any weight.

As others have said, this can happen from time to time. Just gently feel her back end to check she hasn't retained any and offer her a smaller than normal meal for some energy. Most snakes are more likely to accept a slightly small meal than a larger one just after laying although many won't eat until after their post lay shed |

Welcome to my world Ashley  . One of my snakes was probed as a male and laid slugs a couple of months later. Like you, a bit of a shock. She's gone on to do it twice more. Really hoped she'd miss out this year because I struggle to get the weight back on her but no luck.
20+ eggs is quite something. How old is she and was she a good weight before she stopped eating? It's worthwhile offering her a small prey item now, although she may not eat until after she's done her post-lay shed. As far as I can work out it's not common for females to do this but it does happen. Also just because it's happened this year doesn't necessarily mean it will happen every year. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do to stop it.
As long as she's healthy, and knowing your snakes I've no doubt she is, I'm sure she'll recover fine .

They are what everyone calls slugs. You are right in that they are infertile.
