Going away with family and friends and only people left at home can't help with Cola as they are scared of snakes. Found this online and hoping it will be ok. Going away for a week. What are your thoughts.

When I have to leave my snakes for any length of time I give them two water bowls. Plenty of water and an alternative if they poo in one

It might be fine, as long as the snake doesn't poo in it.

Mine seem to do it just when I don't need them to. Went up to kent for a few days in february, every day for a week beforehand one or other of the babies pooped in their bowl, or threw it over. I ended up blue-tacking them all to the floor while we were away, and gave the worst offender a dowe egberts coffee jar lid, as much as he tried he could not tip it. I also fed them all the day before we went in the hopes they would quietly sit and digest for the few days we were gne, came back and found all water intact thankfully.

that poultry water thing is a good idea, and even if id does get knocked down or pooped in (why do they just HAVE to do that??) a week can sound bad, but they would be fine, different for gecko for example. If you were worried, is there a neighbour who cold sort it if need be?

Or wrapping around it,so all the water comes out at once :P No idea about it,But its mainly for small lizards etc right.

It's only a week,so whatever you use should be ok :)

Have you considered a poultry waterer? We used them for our chickens, the water all around means that even if the snake poops in it there will be a bit that stays cleaner than the rest. The smaller water surface means they are less likely to be able to poop in it anyway, plus it's a more stable design. About the same price too. I suppose size might be an issue, but they probably some smaller.

It won't over fill the bowl apparently (don't know how) I have asked. It fills the smaller side as the water is used up. Yeah someone is going to check the temps. Can't understand why people are scared of them. But suppose if a horse came anywhere near me I would be off. But they are massive and have evil white bits in their eyes when they look at you sideways. Also they have a mind of their own and if they decided to leg it with you on their back you are just along for the ride till they decided to chuck you off.

That's a good point Scottishbluebird. My thoughts were how it works out when it needs topping up, so whether it might over-fill the bowl, and the fact that it's adding clean water to old. It's tough when you don't have anyone who will even just change water, so it's better than nothing. Do you have someone coming in who can keep an eye on the temps?

Xxx

I thought that myself about it being knocked over but not got much choice. Will get it and wedge it in so hopefully can't be pushed around to much.

Not seen that before, but i think it would be great, as long as snake does not wrap around it and knock it down
