Posted - 27/12/2013 : 19:38:24 Hi friends!
I am in the process of looking to get a 3ft tall (3ft in length) custom viv with 2 shelves in (at different heights) for Anouk as she loves to climb.
I would like to have a small heat mat on one of the shelves for a warm side for her and on the same side a bigger heat mat on the floor of the viv.
Have a few questions.
by having 2 heat mats within the viv will this make the overall temp in the viv warmer? If so, should both mats be between 27-29oC?
If anyone could please also link me to where i would be able to purchase a twin thermostat for a reasonable price i would be very grateful!
Or should i buy a new single thermostat and a new thermometer and run the 2 separate with the thermostat and thermometer i already have?
Many thanks! Hope you all had a good Christmas and all the best for 2014!

Posted - 28/12/2013 : 18:01:11 Please DON'T run two heat mats of one stat because if the mat with the probe fails the other heat mat would run full blast uncontrolled. I run a test with a 11" by 11" 14 watt heat mat unstated reaching 54c |

Posted - 27/12/2013 : 21:50:58 No u will need differant or twin stat as you said one small an one big mat. Can only run 2 mats of the same stat if mats are identical size/brand etc, so you can't run them off one stat. |

Posted - 27/12/2013 : 20:35:21 I would run both mats off the one thermostat, wire the two to the same plug making sure the output is not too high for the thermostat. I currently do this with no difference in performance, both mats have a separate thermometer which read more or less the same. The thermostat probe should go on the larger mat. |
