Posted - 20/10/2013 : 16:18:44 Hi my corn doesn't seem to be putting on weight all that fast. He has put on 3 grams in 8 weeks. He always takes his feed no problem and im being fed 2 pinkys every seven days. I think he is approx 7 months old. He weights 23 grams at present. Do you think this is normal for weight gain. He does not look underweight. I have a couple of fluffs in the freezer which I compared against him for size. They look double the size of the widest part of my corn. they look huge. He has been on double pinks since I got him in June. any advice please. thanks. |

Posted - 30/10/2013 : 22:15:55 What everyone has said is right Mark . As long as he seems healthy, is eating, drinking, shedding and pooing normally then he's probably fine.
If you feel he is too thin for fuzzies then my thinking would be to maybe move his feeds from weekly to every 6 days and then maybe even to every 5. That would be the usual feeding schedule for a snake on pinkies. I'd be hesitant to up him to 3 pinkies, I'd rather see him stay on doubles until he's ready for fuzzies but it is down to personal choice. Razee has made a good suggestion about choosing the size or even weight of the pinkies, so you can slowly increase how much he's eating until he's ready for fuzzies.
The Rough Guide to Feeding may be of some help to you.

Posted - 30/10/2013 : 15:33:56 I wouldn't worry, if he is eating shedding and toileting fine, and not losing any weight/looking underweight.
They all grow at different rates.
I have to say, Emmy seemed a very slow grower, until she started on fuzzies. When she started on fuzzies I noticed a massive difference in her growth rate! |

Posted - 30/10/2013 : 15:24:29 Maybe you should move his food up at size. I've had my snake 8months. He weighed 9g when I bought him and today he weights 80g! |

Posted - 21/10/2013 : 16:13:14 Midas was the same over 3 months feeding on pinkies his weight gain was about 8 grams. After he grew big enough for the next size mouse he has been growing a lot faster and has put on 18 grams in the past 2 months.
Ive read its something to do with the nutritional value of pinkies compared to more grown mice but others can advise better on that as im a beginner
Every snake grows at there own pace and as long as hes eating, gaining weight and is healthy I would not worry.
I have used the very rough guide to feeding on here and the advice of others regarding feeding and fed midas every 5 days when on pinkies. |

Posted - 20/10/2013 : 17:33:32 Just checked my records and all my corns were very similar weight to yours at 7 months, good idea to up the feed to 3 pinkies, wouldn't worry. |

Posted - 20/10/2013 : 17:07:12 Is it worth trying 3 pinkies until he's fat enough for a fuzzy?

Posted - 20/10/2013 : 16:55:36 Hm. if he's otherwise healthy (no diarhoea ) ,then I'd look at the size of the pinkies.
There are some really tiny, skinny, almost see through ones - and then there are big, chunky pinkies, some of which are almost bigger than some small fuzzies. Maybe, if you're feeding two tiny ones,it's not enough for him now. If you could perhaps find a shop, that will let you chose the pinkies, and choose 2 bigger ones, or one big, one medium pink - or see if they have the tiniest ever fuzzie... at 23 g , he's almost ready for fuzzies, but if they are too wide, there's no point risking it. |
