Posted - 02/10/2013 : 15:16:12 A question for those of you who use digital Thermostats. I have just invested in three digital thermostats and was wondering whether there is any need for a digital thermometer to be located next to the thermostat probe? I will have a digital temperature reading from the thermostat and will probably check this with one of my digi thermometers initially but would like to reduce the amount of wires going into my vivs Thanks in advance |

Sounds good - do you have any pulse stats? We've always used the mat stats until we got Artemis, for who we bought as pulse as she's got a ceramic, but I've been so pleased with the accuracy I was thinking about switching the others over to pulses. I'm not sure how the digital prices compare to the pulses? Will be interested to hear how you get on - you know how I love to stalk you and copy your ideas lol!
Stalker I have a pulse stat for Ludo which I got because he has a ceramic bulb above the exo terra to create a gradient from top to bottom. I got the day/night one so that I am able to drop the night time temp by a few degrees. Really happy with my pulse I also have one habistat mat stat that I think is actually a pulse stat in the wrong casing - the temp hardly fluctuates and the light on the front flashes like the one on my pulse stat, I will never try it on any thing other than a mat though.

After I got my first pulse I eventually swapped mine all over to them as they are so more accurate than the on/off. I don't think my corns care less that it holds +/-0.1 deg C rather than the +/-1 deg C but I am happier |

Posted - 02/10/2013 : 21:40:39 Thanks, have set these up and checked with my digital thermometer and the digital reading of the stat matches my digital thermometer, so all good I'm happy so far as not much fluctuation and they have an alarm if the temp drops below or above 2 degrees (limit set by me) They are only on/off stats - nothing fancy as using on my corns |

Posted - 02/10/2013 : 20:14:45 I have digital stats and as Mick said it is good to have a thermometer just so you can glance at it and see that the temps are ok. I also use an infrared temp gun to check my temps throughout the viv (mainly for my carpets but the corns get scanned sometimes too) |
