A couple of weeks ago I got a hefty nip off my Cassiopeia. Bled a bit, got tiny scabs which were gone in 2 days, didn't think anything of it. Been bitten before, no biggie.
Until four days later when my hands starting itching really badly. I had what looked like a nettle sting rash on my hand and it was SO itchy! It wasn't until the next day that I realised the rash was in the perfect outline of my bite, and had started to blister. I put some antihistamine (or maybe hydrocortisone, I can't remember) cream on it and the itch went away, and within a couple more days the itching had gone completely.
I am not allergic to anything. I don't tend to react to mozzy bites even; I'm generally regarded in my family as supremely inert. There was no tooth stuck in the bite and I have no idea why it seemed to heal and then days later became so nasty. Anyone else experienced similar? It's never happened before and I've been tagged a few times. How very, very bizarre!  |

Most of not all snakes carry both Salmonella and Pseudamonas in their mouth, if anything, its likely to be a reaction to either one of those. It could also be that the snake has left some teeth behind, but that only tends to happen if you snatch your hand away trying to avoid a bite! |

I would suspect that your rodents have introduced some kind of bacteria into your critters that your immune system doesn't like and or you are getting something like contact dermatitis from the bites.

I'm wondering whether you're developing some sort of allergic reaction to snake saliva, although the delay is odd. You're definitely 'some kind of freak' Inkiepixie  .

It's happened again, this time 11 days after being tagged by the royal! She bit me on October 28th (yes I'm getting some feeding tongs soon...) and this morning I woke up to this...
Again hydrocortisone cream has helped with the itch and I've got a little blister at the site of each puncture wound. But 11 days later? I'm some kind of freak! |

Maybe the wound wasn't cleaned as thoroughly as you thought, but it doesn't sound like it was infected as hydrocortisone would not clear infection. Bit of a strange one that, there is a fella that works in my local rep shop and he was telling me he's been bitten countless times by various snakes/lizards with no problems at all until a Garter snake bite him and he had an allergic reaction. Seems it's only the Garter, each time he's bitten he's had a reaction so he can't handle them anymore. |
