Posted - 21/08/2013 : 20:51:48 Well, George has never been sexed. I have no intention of having him done either as I have no breeding plans for him as I have no idea of his gene's.
But in the future I may wish to start breeding, so it may be him I use first.
He is just over 1 years old. So when is the stage when you stop popping and then start probing ?
As I have yet to find an answer to this question.

Hi Mark,
Yes it is a way of determining the sex of a hatch-ling corn snake. Basically it's a technique where the hemipenes are 'popped' or 'pop' out of the male snake (requires some skill), if not and its a female she will show two tiny red dots instead of hemipenes.
Hope this helped
P.S - Please get someone experienced to do this as it can seriously damage the snake |

Posted - 22/08/2013 : 07:32:05 Way too big for popping now. Probing is your best bet but depending on who you get to probe your snake and their experience level, it is often better for the snake to be a bit bigger as there's less risk of mistakes/injury. |

If you imagine the two pockets inside his tail, they have to be big enough for the smallest probe to fit in. I waited till Baz was well over 3 feet to have her probed, just to be safe. |

Posted - 21/08/2013 : 20:59:27 cant pop at that age, once they start eating as hatchies they are buiding muscle and strengthing so really after only a few weeks or so of eating i wouldnt be popping snakes. |
