After a lost bidding war on ebay for a piece of driftwood I decided to ask a friend of mine whos in the antique business if she could get hold of some for nagis new forever viv which is currently being made. 2 days later I have 3 massive pieces which are all brill for the same price the one on ebay went for... happy days. One of them is a hollow base of a small tree and will make a a great hide after a bit of chopping. When this is done the pieces will need treating. Whats the best way to snake safe them ??? |

Thanks for your advice :-)one of the pieces looks ok. the other 2 look like they've been outside so I'm going do mi chopping, jet wash then soak them all in a mild bleach over night then rinse thoroughly and naturally dry. Not gonna fit in my oven ha ha....wonder if the local pizza shop would mind :-) |

I just wash any i collect with warm soapy water,Using a nail brush or bottle brush etc.Then soak it in F10/bleach,then give it a final rinse off with cold water.
Don't bother baking it or anything,Might pour boiling water over whatever. |

Leave it in your car in the sun on a warm day.. chances are there is nothing on it that will have any effect on your critter...

If they have been in with other reptiles then give them a bit of a spray with F10 or something otherwise there is no need to treat/boil/nuke etc |

I tend to just boil mine, sometimes with bleach and sometimes without  All depends where I got the wood from lol. I'd say definitely at least boil them in the bath for a day or so then let them dry naturally. If you have an airing cupboard they are great for standing wood in to dry naturally. If you use bleach, soak in the boiling water and bleach for a day. Then rinse in cold water(it apparently draws the bleach out quicker) thoroughly 3-5 times just to be sure. Then stand to dry naturally |

With the bits I've got I just mixed up mild bleach solution and used boiling water soaked for 24hr then rinsed thoroughly. |
