I have read that some snakes show signs of respiratory infection during the shedding cycle, that clears within hours after shed.
is this common?

If you are worried about your snake getting this, just keep a close eye. If it doesnt relieve after the shed, then contact the vet to be safe :)

I think it's just the loosening of the skin inside the nostrils, causing the whistling and clicking associated with an RI

I couldnt tell you for sure, but my two havent had it since ive had them.
