Posted - 20/07/2013 : 23:07:21 I'm not an expert at all and am new to snake keeping but are the temps in his viv ok? It's been very hot here and it sounds like he could be hot- I found Boris in his water bowl this morning. |

Posted - 20/07/2013 : 10:03:57 It does sound like he could be 'blue' Carl, which is why he's hiding away. This thread on shedding should tell you all you need to know about it - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12296
It could be that he is hot, so is trying to escape the heat by burying himself. I would echo Blackcat's question about the temps. I'm assuming your heatmat has a thermostat and you're measuring the temps with a digital thermometer.
The other thing is that it may be that his previous behaviour was because of breeding season and his hormones have now calmed down. I only see my corns when I get them out to handle and feed them. They spend most of the time hidden away, which is normal.
Could I ask that you stop using capital letters please. They represent shouting when used like you do on the internet, in email and text messaging. This is seen as a universal rule of netiquette and one we respect.

Posted - 19/07/2013 : 10:28:01 Knowing when he last shed would be useful, it sounds to me that your snake is most likely going into shed cycle, nothing to worry about as it is perfectly normal for them to hide away during this time Hopefully you will have a nice shiny snake soon, but letting the forum peeps know about your set up conditions could help if this isn't the case regards shedding. Hot and cold end temps would be useful to know, but with the weather we are having currently your set up will be warm enough, just not much gradient between hot and cold end. |

Posted - 19/07/2013 : 08:52:05 Have you noticed him spending more time actually in his water bowl recently (if it's big enough for him to get into)? Has anything changed in his diet or feeding schedule? Has he been defecating normally? Does he look different in any way?
Sorry, I know that's a lot of questions... I'm no expert in corns, I've only had mine for just over a month, but the answers to these kind of questions might help more experienced people help you out. Hopefully it's nothing serious :) |
