Posted - 15/07/2013 : 08:55:22 Hi all, so I'm fairly confident that my amel male Lovecraft is about to shed; for the last couple of days he has seemed much duller than normal, his usually bright res and oranges going pink and peach, and I can barely see his belly checkers at all. He's also refused his meal yesterday and he's usually a very reliable eater.
Having said that, his eyes still look the same, but I think i remember reading that their eyes don't usually go cloudy til a little while after they go dull... is this correct? Also if there are any other reasons why he might be going dull and not eating, I'd love to hear them.
But yeah, apart from that, this post is mostly just because I'm excited (it's the first time he's shed for me). I've put a damp pad of kitchen roll in his warm hide... is this right? |

Posted - 22/07/2013 : 09:34:28 Thanks for the help everyone!
Well li'l Lovey has indeed shed :) He waited 'til I was away for the weekend (of course) so I got a very excitable text from my housemate who was keeping an eye on him, but he seems to have shed perfectly; whole thing is in one piece and there don't seem to be any tears, the tail-tip is there as well as both eyecaps, so I think all is well :) He has also now eaten so I'm a happy snakey parent :) He's still spending way more time in his cool hide than usual, even now he's digesting, but I guess that's due to the weather being warmer |

Thanks for the advice, I will do so as soon as I get home... he has actually been spending much more time in the cool end than normal this past week, normally he very rarely strays from his warm hide during the day. |

Posted - 16/07/2013 : 11:28:49 Well his eyes looked cloudier than normal last night and this morning. Not full on milky blue or pink but definitely a duller red than normal, which I guess is the best I'm gonna' get. I've improvised with a shed box; just put a pad of damp kitchen roll in his warm hide, though so far I don't think he's gone in there once :P
I just hope he has a good shed and those goes back to eating normally |

Posted - 15/07/2013 : 20:23:47 Sounds like a shed is due to me. Im quite lucky that Mo's eyes actually go blue, Abbey is a bit harder to tell but her eyes just go milky pink instead of having her usual red pupil. But no harm in prepping a shed for a couple days, adding the shed box etc :) |

Posted - 15/07/2013 : 16:26:53 Diego tends to stay blue for 3 or 4 days, then he'll be clear for between 2 and 5 days before he sheds. However, our CB12 kingsnake goes from blue to shed in 3-4 days, so the young'uns seem to do it a lot faster. |

Posted - 15/07/2013 : 12:02:13 ^^ Thanks, that's good to know, that does sound a lot like what Lovecraft looks like now :)
I don't suppose you could tell me roughly how long it takes from the time you notice your Diego's colours fading til when he actually sheds? Just curious :) |

Posted - 15/07/2013 : 09:14:01 With the amels it's sometimes hard to tell, however with my Diego it's very obvious. He goes bluey/pink and his pattern fades out, the first time I saw him blue I thought he was dead o.O But his eyes stay normal red, so yeah, sounds like yours is about to shed. Sounds like what you've done is all good, so fingers crossed for a nice clean shed :O) |
