Posted - 29/05/2013 : 12:07:45 So she is around 23inches and last weighed in at 26g (from memory - i have it written down at home - that was around a month ago) and still on 2pinkies every 5/6 days.
I just seen someone (Redware?) mentioning that their corn was 19g and on fuzzies! (Didn’t want to hi-jack the thread )
Should I put Emmy up to fuzzies?! They just seem kinda big for her small neck. I know I know, they stretch ! I have fuzzies in the freezer I was given by mistake, and only have one feed of pinkies left – it would be safe to try her out on a fuzzy wouldn’t it? If it was too big she just wouldn’t take it, right?
Just don't want to hurt her! Such a worrier haha! |

Posted - 31/05/2013 : 13:55:25 Thanks Nexiv! My friend helped me out with the name - as i already had Oscar she thought Emmy (as in the awards hehe). What would i call a third though......TV Choice?! Haha!

Posted - 31/05/2013 : 13:31:07 Oh she's so gorgeous. I just love her name too, it suits her so much I need an ultramel anery in my life! (That's what she is, right?) |

Posted - 31/05/2013 : 10:39:39 Ah, I read your sticky Kellog - every 6/7 days fabby! |

Posted - 31/05/2013 : 10:35:15 Thanks, put my mind at rest! After looking at the picture again it's actually quite obvious she could manage that haha!
It is scary, but you're right I have to trust her! It's the neck bit that scares me, but they were made to stretch I must remind myself of this.
She's on once every 5/6 days, so in 5 days I'll feed her a fuzzy and on fuzzies it's every 7 days isn't it? |

Posted - 31/05/2013 : 10:30:33 Beautiful snake, and as Kellog and smart bunny have said she will easily manage a fuzzie |
Kellog |
Posted - 31/05/2013 : 09:26:10 She is lovely . I'm in total agreement with Smartbunny, she could easily eat that fuzzie....and larger. It is really scary when you see them work their jaws around their food and then their neck stretches such an amazing amount . But they were designed to be able to do this....you just have to trust her .

Posted - 31/05/2013 : 08:22:20 Barely visible bump I would say! Definitely ready for fuzzies, she could easily have managed the one in that pic - in fact I was half expecting the next pic to have been of her eating it! :) |

Posted - 30/05/2013 : 22:37:51 ok, so this is her beside the smallest fuzzy I have
this is her eating her pinkie (the scary part where it looks sooo big at the neck lol!)
and this is her after 2 pinkies - not massive bump I don't think
so onto small fuzzies you think? |

Posted - 30/05/2013 : 06:02:17 thanks! yeah I'll do that tonight, good idea! I'll weigh her also as I forgot lastnight *memory like a sieve* lol |

Posted - 30/05/2013 : 00:16:12 My 2012 Nebula is on fuzzies. She's fully digested etc now so I'll weight and measure her for you to compare to
K, she's 31g but she came to me on fuzzies and that was over a month ago. So I reckon fuzzies will be fine. If you like, take a picture of one next to her and we can see the size? |
Kellog |
Posted - 29/05/2013 : 20:05:31 Don't be surprised if the bump after the fuzzy is smaller than that after 2 pinkies....gram-wise she will actually be eating less to begin with. But it does mean that her stomach is more than ready to move up to the next food size .
Keep asking for second opinions, etc. Putting minds at rest is what we're here for .

Posted - 29/05/2013 : 13:10:20 Thanks guys
I knew it would be fine to try, it's just always nice to get a second opinion! That makes me feel more confident about trying her on fuzzies RW!
HF - yes probably, sure everyone has felt this way at some point!
Kellog - thanks you are right, there is still a bump, but it isn't all that big really. I'll give her her last 2 pinkies i have on her next feed, and then try her on a fuzzy the next time! That's a good idea, I'll pick the smallest one in the bag and see how she goes with that
Cheers peeps, always put my mind at rest! |

Posted - 29/05/2013 : 12:24:22 She is probably ready for fuzzies, Alannah. I'm assuming there isn't much of a bump after she's eaten her 2 pinkies? I know it seems daunting, but as long as the fuzzy isn't more than 1.5 times wider than her widest bit she'll be fine . It is weird, because the size of food they can eat doesn't have anything to do with their head or neck size, but more their belly size.
Don't worry about being a worrier, lots of us are like it and its daunting moving them up a size with food. When she takes it she'll probably take longer than she does with the pinkies and it will look as though she's struggling to begin with, as she works out how to manoeuvre her mouth around it....but she'll be fine. For your own peace of mind pick out the smallest fuzzy you have and give that to her for her first feed on them.
Let us know how she goes.

Edited to add....Redware and Herriotfan type faster than me ! Just remember that the ROUGH Feeding Guide is just that, a very rough guide and it differs from snake to snake.

Posted - 29/05/2013 : 12:24:14 Redware is spot on. As long as the mouse is no bigger then 1.5 times the size of the snakes widest part then they can have them. You're just the same as most of us, we fret over putting them up a size because the mouse looks so big but then you'll feel so chuffed when they do move up! |

Posted - 29/05/2013 : 12:19:48 I went off Kellogs sticky Alannah, http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27833 it was very useful. I went up to Fuzzies a little early as the reptile shop that I got her from said she was ready for them and when I went to get pinkies to double feed her those from the other reptile shop on the way back from work they had sold out of pinkies and it was feeding day! Willow is now 24.3g now as well by the way she started on small fuzzies at around 20g.
The golden rule that I have found on the site is to make sure that the food you feed her is not more than 1.5 times the widest part of her body, Willow's neck looks tiny in comparison but she wolfs them down very quickly!
Hope it helps. |
