Posted - 21/04/2013 : 04:55:47 I'm so glad you've got the pulse stat up and running....and that you are so happy with Jasper . Have seen your pics of him and he's lovely.
I'm sure your missus will soon be won round by Jasper's corn magic ....I don't think any of us have stopped at one snake! They're too addictive!

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 21:23:17 If your corn was only fed on Tuesday it's not too surprising that it still has a lump visible, especially if the warm end temps have been dropping to 25oC. They need heat to digest, so it going that low wont help. I had exactly the same situation as you with a Microclimate on/off, with the same temp variance. And I did the same thing....replaced it with a Habistat pulse stat, which I'm really happy with. How are you measuring the temps? Do you have a digital thermometer?
It is important for your snake to be left alone for the 48hrs after a feed, not only no handling but no peeking . You don't want to do anything that might stress him.

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 18:19:20 It can take longer to digest, depending on temperature. I wouldn't handle him, if you can still see the lump, let him digest his meal in peace. It can take anything from 2 days at about 29C to roughly 5 days at about 21C.
I know what you mean by the stat, I had an On/Off Microclimate, and it was driving me crazy ( and probably the snake, too ). The pulse ones are really good, though. |

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 17:18:34 Hi I got him a week on tuesday that's way I feed him, I have a microclimate stat and its rubbish so I have ordered a pulse stat which should be here tomorrow or saturday but the stat kicks in at about 25c and turns off at about 29c |

Posted - 18/04/2013 : 16:49:05 Don't handle him for 48 hours after a feed. This is to prevent stressing him & causing a regurge. Some snakes take longer than the 48hrs, our youngest corn takes 3 or 4 days to digest her pinkie so yours having a lump still is nothing to worry about but I wouldn't handle till its gone. Have you given him 7 days with no handling so he can settle in & adjust to his new home? You say his temps are fine but what are they? It doesn't hurt to double check. |
