Hi, sorry for the somewhat rude question, but after a lot of thinking I have decided I would like to own a corn snake.
I have had friends with snakes, so not completely new to them, just new to the preparing and the finding one!
So, I have no idea what sort of price I would expect to pay for a baby snake... I am particularly interested in the blood red, and other red coloured morphs but I have no idea where to start looking for a breeder or anything. (I am in south west scotland).

A Bloodred from a breeder will cost around £50 and you show know almost exactly its genes. From a shop will cost you around £70-£80 as they have overheads like rent, wages etc but it may just be labelled as Bloodred so may not fully know its genes
It is currently egg laying time now so if you can wait another 3 to 4 months you will see plenty up for sale in the classifieds :-)

I totally agree about Iansvivarium being a VERY dangerous place to look at corns   .....but the only way to avoid the corn addiction is not to get one  !

Has a Few of Gmacs Corns have to say they are lil crackers so Glasgow Corns definately worth considering Pmsl @ Mamma and Jeremy Kyle and Drama llama that made me chuckle
If you dont want to get addicted id advise not looking on ians viv and discovering all the pretty colours and patterns they come in lol |

Hi, I'm also in Scotland  and we've just got our first baby snake.
It really does depend where you get it and what morph your after.
We got a carolina and full hatchling setup inc thermostat for £100 and that was the cheapest I had come across 'reptile shop wise' for what we got.
Keep an eye on gumtree too, there's sometimes a bargain to be had on there |

Can someone explain to me about the season thing (yes I feel thick) and when (ish) is going to be the best time to aim to have a baby snake?
I am moving house at the moment but once that is done I am going to begin buying the things I need. |

well im hopefully gonna a have what your after this season lol. But not being biased the rep shops we have in the west are a tad poor lol, so finding a breeder maybe your best bet.
a few shops i would suggest though is pro exotics in greenock and paisley |

OOh lucky you Scotland! there seem to be a lot of lovely stripes/motleys in your part of the world-Price is very variable;our rescues cost us dear in worry and heartache and little in initial outlay.We then treated ourselves to a bought snake-worry free and healthy but you get what you pay for!
I've seen some very pretty bright red/orange Amel babies for as little as £15.At the other end Palmetto's are rare and new and can be £££thousands.
I guess best to have a look and find somethingyou like.RFUK have a classified section and there is 'Preloved'.Most breeders will courier to you (Wild World Reptiles have a specialist reptile courier).Then there are Reptile 'shows'.

really depends on the kind of morph you are after. You got your classic "normal" morph which is lovely reds and oranges, I have seen them selling for £10+
you should check out iansvivariums online, they have lots of pics of the different morphs I am sure you will be able to narrow it down to a couple of the more reddy looking morphs you like and then take it from there

Thanks :) yeah I would rather go to a breeder, as a newbie I worry about a shop selling me something else! Lol
I haven't started buying a set up yet, but want to know what sorta money I should save up before planning on getting my snake :) |

Hi there I too am in scotland. Keep an eye out in the classifeds section on here... there is also a fellow scot on here Gmac who runs Glasgow Corns too. You can find their page on facebook. As well as this forums page on there too
IMO you would be better looking for a breeder than looking around local reptile shops, as the rep shops do bump the prices up (in my personal opinion - quite considerably)
And if you like jeremy kyle and drama llama and the such you can check out the reptiles for sale pages kicking about on facebook too. (I joke there are a couple of semi decent pages on there.. lol) |
