So i have had rubi for about a year and a half now and have always said i want anothe one. I hvae recently moved in with my partner and he has fallen in love with my snakes and lizards. We nearly came home with a cali the other week but was told by the shop they can be nippier than a corn and we are worried about him nipping my partners 3 year old. He loves rubi and loves holding her and we would want to encourage him to do the same with the new one and dont want him to he put off by a bite. Thinking will get a king (im after a lavander) when he is a bit older and will understand more.

For the time being i am deffinatly thinging i will get a second corn just cant decide on a morph, i love palmettos but the cost is to high and i also like peppermint stripes but not seen any for sale.....decisions decisions

How about letting your partner's son choose? He would love that!

I ahve concidered a king i really like the lavander kings, however my partners wants to wait until his little boy (hes 3) is a bit older as we were told they are more likely to bite and we dont want to deter his lad from the snakes as he loves rubi and would want to handle the king, and think a bite would scare him quite a bit at the moment ( i will get one in a few years though)...I am also rather liking the BRBs but need to do bit of research into them.

Kings biting is lies! All lies! :P my guy is so snuggly <3 My corns are more feisty than my king, it's strange. Does depend on the snake and kings do seem a bit more unpredictable so I understand where you are coming from :) Hopefully you don't get a stroopy corn though lol

PERSONALLY I don't feel it's right to do it 'for the experience', when there is so much risk involved to the female snake, very time consuming and costly, and I know I'd get too attached to the babies and would struggle if some didn't make it and then having to say goodbye to them. But then I do realise that I am biased by the fact that Silvi has laid slugs twice and it's been hard on her.....so I would never choose to do it with her, or another female if I got one. BUT that is only my personal opinion .

I have to agree with you :) With so many common morphs struggling to find new homes... :(

I would say get an anery but I am biased :P but the yellow face paint pattern is so cute! Orchids and hypo lavs look amazing!

Even with a "see through snake" they still catch you by surprise!!! you would think i'd have learnt by now that when Sheldon stays still for any length of time he's pooping, caught me out again tonight, it was a rather smelly one too

At least you can see it coming lol

I totally understand what you're saying about not getting a king YET , and think its very wise. They are nippy and unpredictable and a young child won't understand why the new snake is different to the old one. The last thing you want is him to get bitten once and for that to make him scared of snakes for life....and that age it could happen because they are too young to be able to comprehend what's happened and that it isn't anything to be scared about.

Thank you, im amazed how much she has changed already, yeah i want something that contrasts well i do like the white morphs. I have looked at a few anerys.

Im also thinking about breeding when everything is right which is why i wish i knew if rubi had any hets, also need to confirm rubi is definatly a she lol
with so much breeding going on at the min im sure i will find a second snakey.

So true what you say about Rubi , I love her colouring. It'll be interesting to see how she develops and changes as she grows.

I like the idea of you going with your gut instinct . Maybe it would be nice to have one whose colours are a contrast to Rubi's, so anery type.....

I have to say my fav morphs are... anery, classic, snow and butter.

However if anyone would like to treat me to an amel cinder then I of course, would love you forever
herriotfan Posted - 12/04/2013 : 20:17:11
Kellogs.....boring morphs indeed!!!!! No such thing.
Kellog Posted - 12/04/2013 : 19:47:38
I must admit that I'm one of those people who feels that what morph it is doesn't matter. Both Silvi (anery) and Asher(ghost motley) were rescues. I got Silvi because I just couldn't leave her where she was....and I did love her black/grey/silver markings. And Asher just caught my husband's eye at the rescue centre.

I think the 'boring' morphs are overlooked a lot, when they can be stunning looking snakes.....although I wouldn't say no to a tessera if you offered me one !

Are you planning on deciding on a morph and then searching out a breeder or just going 'corn shopping' at local reptile shops etc Jenny?

I had no idea that Anery could include so many great patterns and colours.I guess its not just Black and White

Though The only way is to go with what you see and fall for-maybe a snake will find you,a rescue? happy hunting
