Posted - 14/03/2013 : 21:43:30 ...buuuut I'm still not sure if I'm going to get one. Reason being, there's this male for sale, another CB12, who would have gone with the female diffused I'm getting so PERFECTLY. She's diffused het lavender and hypo ph amel, and he's diffused het lavender ph hypo and amel. Both carry the masque and redcoat gene as well.
However, Ads recommends NOT breeding these two together as they would be F3 siblings. I don't pretend to know exactly what that means, but Ads knows his stuff and it's probably good advice.
But I am SOOO gutted, because had none of the hets proved out I'd be getting beautiful diffused and also lavenders, and if all the hets HAD proved out.. well...
27 / 64 Diffused 66% poss het. Lavender, Amel, Hypo 9 / 64 Plasma ( Diffused, Lavender ) 66% poss het. Amel, Hypo 9 / 64 Fire ( Amel, Diffused ) 66% poss het. Lavender, Hypo 9 / 64 Hypo Diffused ( Diffused, Hypo ) 66% poss het. Lavender, Amel 3 / 64 Hypo Plasma ( Diffused, Hypo, Lavender ) 66% poss het. Amel 3 / 64 Diffused Opal ( Amel, Diffused, Lavender ) 66% poss het. Hypo 3 / 64 Fire, Hypo ( Amel, Diffused, Hypo ) 66% poss het. Lavender 1 / 64 Diffused Opal, Hypo ( Amel, Diffused, Lavender, Hypo )
I would so have kept back some hatchlings, one to breed to my pewter het amel especially to get charcoal in there as well. And having looked at these genes I would really like to look for a male for her with similar hets. I think this would make a better project than my previous one (for a first time), because that would have taken two generations before I got anything other than normals. So I think the best idea would be to wait until the summer when there are CB13 hatchlings about, and see if there's a suitable suitor for her then :)
Of course.. that's not saying I won't be getting another corn soon ;)
Thanks for reading, just wanted to spill my brains a bit. |

Ah okay, yeah that's too risky really.

Maybe you could find another unrelated male elsewhere with similar hets? Multicorn?
I think you may be right :)
And yeah, gonna wait to find a male with similar hets. Think I'll stand a better chance if I wait until this year's hatchlings start pipping. |
