Hi there, I've had Sonny over a year now and he's starting to get big(he's recently hit a growth spurt and I'm considering moving him from 2 fuzzies a week to 1 small). Problem is he's still just as flighty, I can go in and pick him up no problem, but occasionally he flees like bat out of hell before I can.
Also when I put him in his feeding tub he has a serious freak out and tries to get out for a good couple minutes, and videos of feeding corns I've seen they look quite placid. Is that just the way he is? Or will he become more confident and calmer the bigger he gets?

What you've been told is right Adam....all corns are different and some take longer to settle down than others. Herriotfan makes a good point about how often you are handling him and whether it is consistent. I know it's difficult fitting it in with life, but it definitely helps if you can get him out regularly on the days you are able to handle him, even if its just for 10mins. It's interesting that he is sometimes fine but other times not. Can you think of anything that ties into the times he just wants to get away from you?
With regard to his freaking out when you put him in his feeding tub, it could be as Hissyfit has suggested. It may also be that he's actually a shy corn and might prefer a shoebox or to have his tub covered over to calm him down. It's worth trying.

Falco's not keen on being 'caught' either, and I always feel guilty getting him out. When you feed Sonny in a tub, do you put the lid on? My little Emrys freaks out when the lid goes on his tub, so we leave it off and just keep an eye on him, maybe Sonny's the same? |

Corno is 18 months and is rarely too keen on the idea of me getting her out of the viv - but is always absolutely fine once out so I'm not too worried - is he OK once out? And do you hold him for a reasonable amount of time so he has chance to settle with you once out?
Again Corno is quite big and now on large mice, but Ember who was a year in December is only on smalls still. She's always been small though, and I'm hoping to move her up to mediums in the not too distant future. Sounds like maybe you need to up his food?

Some do take ages to calm down. How often do you handle him? The more he gets used to being handled the better he should become. I've got some that are well over a year that freak out sometimes. It's a case of time and endless patience!  |
