Posted - 09/03/2013 : 22:54:46 Hi I have recently purchased a 7 month old corn snake and was just wanting ask a few questions . He was fed this Wednesday just gone 06/03/13 baring in mind it is now Saturday should I feed him tomorrow or Monday? He takes 5-6 pinkies in one feed I've been informed (bit of a pig) which leads to my next question . Since he is taking up to 6 pinkies would be advisable to move him onto fluffs? Although he seems to still be a bit small headed for fluffs. Last but not least my third question , since he is new and only been in his new viv for a couple of days he still seems quite shy and retreats to his hide when the viv lid is opened, therefore shall I feed him in the viv leaving the food for him or shall I move him to an environment without substrate for feeding? Bearing in mind this will be the first time I feed him so just wanted to get a consensus of opinions Thanks :) |

Posted - 13/03/2013 : 18:32:14 5/6 pinkies in one feed is extremely excessive. If they are big enough to manage that many they should be on a larger size mouse. A corn snake can manage food up to 1.5 times the width of their widest part so if a fuzzy is smaller than that then give that a go |

Posted - 10/03/2013 : 12:04:52 Give him a full week to settle into his new home before offering a feed. I always feed my lot in a separate tub as they are all on aspen bedding. As for feeding, never heard anyone feed so many pinkies in one go before! If he can manage all that, I'm sure he'd be fine with a fuzzy |

Posted - 10/03/2013 : 11:35:44 depending on your local rep shop you may be able to get hold of large pinkies, they're between pinkies and fuzzies in size and your little lad would take two of them. failing that keep him on double normal pinks every five days til he's ready for a fuzz. Again depending on your local shop, they may let you pick out the biggest pinkies in the bag. Mine does! |

Posted - 10/03/2013 : 11:30:29 5-6 pinkies at a time? Are you sure they didn't mean 1/2 pinks every 5-6 days? That is far too many prey items at once. Any snake that can manage 5 pinkies in 1 go must be more than big enough to handle a fuzzy by now I would have thought. |

Posted - 10/03/2013 : 10:28:40 Leave him a full week to settle in. Then if you've got him on aspen I'd feed him in a seperate rub. If you're keeping him on kitchen roll he could be fed in his home. After he's been fed leave him for 48hours to digest his food. You can pick him up just to pop him back in his home if you've fed him in a rub, but other than that don't handle him. When he's settled in we'd love to see some photos of him! |

Posted - 10/03/2013 : 09:22:02 Okay would it be best to leave him til next week then ? As I said i only picked him up on Friday so his last feed was with the guys at pets@home . Maybe I will get some fluffs and see if will take one as he seems to be in between the two types if prey , leaving him in the viv to feed wouldn't be a problem would it? As I've read that I should maybe move him out to avoid substrate being ingested ? Thanks |

Posted - 10/03/2013 : 09:06:56 I have to agree with gmac. There is no need for more than 2 prey items in most cases, let alone 5! |

Posted - 09/03/2013 : 23:28:05 with eating 5 or 6 pinkies i wouldnt be feeding it again for at least another week, that is severely overfeeding. Particularly if its not big enough for fuzzies. 2 pinkies at the most for a meal no more than that. If he is big enough for fuzzies would move him onto fizzies, but nothing bigger than 1.5 x the snake at its widest. |
