And I am SO excited. I've wanted a corn from these breeders for a long time and follow their breeding plans a lot. I just love the cinders they produce

The little girl I want is a Diffused het Hypo Lavender,ph Amel. I've been informed she's at least het for Masque as well, and may have the Redcoat gene also. I seriously never imagined I'd own such a cool hatchling and I am SO chuffed :D Diffused was my first choice for a new hatchling, and the fact she's het Lavender is brilliant, as she'll pair well with my Lavender stripe when she's older.

Just awaiting the confirmation and I'll hopefully be collecting her in 6 and a half weeks time!

Not sure on a name yet...

Yeah I read that. That's why they're not sure if this female is Masque or just het Masque because it just may not be showing up on her as well. But she's het for it at least which will add some goodies to the breeding pool :)

Masque is thought to be a dominant gene, but is usually expressed more in male snakes. Typhon and Ophis have it.

I think they are still working out whether 'red coat' and 'yellow jacket' are dominant, co-dom, resessive or just a line bred trait, from what I've read on the US forum...

Thanks for that Nexiv - saves me tootling off to look them up myself lol! I've seen quite a few of the 'scream masks', didn't realise they thought a different gene may be involved :O

I only know cos I've been reading the American corn snake forums and they talk about them a lot more there.
Basically the way I understand it is, masque is a gene that was once thought to be connected to diffused. It's since been proven it's not, and masque has a slight effect on the look of the snake. The biggest difference is the head pattern; more of the body colour shows through and the head pattern looks like "the Scream mask".

Masque

No masque

I'm not sure of the other effects, (I think it reduces the saddle border thickness?) but I think the general rule is the best "Bloodred" diffuseds tend to have the mask gene.

Redcoat is just how it sounds, a wash of red across the whole snake. I've seen pictures of some snakes with a pink/red hue to their white bellies, and the snake just looks more red overall. Again, a great trait to have on a diffused if you like the really red ones. I think there's also a Yellowgene.

Hope some of that makes sense :D I'm no way an authority on it at all, I'm just trying to remember what I've read. I'm sure some other people will be able to answer better or correct me if I've got anything wrong.

Well, congrats! -- I'm too new to all this to pretend I know what all that talk of morphs and shades and such is about. But I googled imaged "Diffused het Hypo Lavender" and they look beautiful. Hope it all works out as planned and you have her home in 6 weeks.
