I feel so sorry for her. I was anxiously awaiting her to shed cos I reckoned I'd be able to catch this one, but when I checked her around yesterday afternoon she'd managed about half her body in about 12 pieces. She'd got her head off and then it had severed, and then a large body part. But then there were shreds just everywhere.
I thought I'd leave her to have another go as I was due to go out anyway, and this morning she'd buried herself under her substrate and was in her log, probably trying to get it off poor thing

I ran her a bath and managed to pick and roll it all off her, but what could have caused this? Her home is fine and normal and she's always been a shed-in-one-piece kind of gal. I just feel so bad for her cos she looked uncomfortable and eagerly squeezed herself out of the stuck bits after her bath which gave me the impression it was uncomfortable for her
Is it something I've done wrong to make her struggle so much with a shed? Is it down to husbandry? Should I give her moss when she goes into blue from now on just in case?

Well half of me is glad I wasn't the only one this happened to, but the other half of me is sad so many corns are struggling with their sheds at the moment :( Maybe a good heads up for anyone who's got a corn in blue at the moment? Perhaps expect it to be a little harder this time and some moistness might be a good idea. I shall definitely offer some to Bats who may be coming up for one shortly.

You're not the only ones, Sakana has always been a great shedder! No problems at all all her life. She shed on Friday the 22nd Feb and I'm still picking the little bits out of her viv that she's buried...

Aphrodite has just shed today and has had her first bad shed too Not sure why, but it came off in LOADS of little pieces and I had to help her with a wet flannel. I wonder if the humidity is especially low right now and that has caused it. I will be putting a moist hide in for her next shed, just in case

Glad Ophion is okay now

My two have had awful sheds the last couple of times - after the first one I now wet their flannel, fold it up into their 'butter tub" hide, put that at the warm end and remove all other hides. It's worked a treat. Was being worried but now that the humidity thing (central heating/cold weather) has been discussed feeling better for the future.

Yes thank you, she's loads better now. She really did ease herself out once I started getting the shed to move so it must have felt pretty nice :) She went into my dressing gown pocket to be warmed up after :D Food time tomorrow!

I just love how friendly this forum is that even those who are new care enough to post their concern for others.
What other forum can boast that?

Oh, thanks for the great advice guys. I didn't consider the fact the air will be drier due to having the heat on etc.

The thought of snakes drinking little water droplets off themselves sounds so cute :D You must try and film it some time!

I think Donnie's right - it could be a combination of low humidity in general + it's cold, so we all have heating on, which dries the air even more. When they try to burry down, they look for higher humidity. My own vivs have been very dry recently. My room humidity is normally around 60 -65 % , but in the last couple of days, it was barely 35 - 40 %.
You could put in a damp hide, next time she's blue, or the damp flannel. I mist my vivs once a day very lightly ( only the hot side ), when mine are in blue, as they both refuse to use moist hides ( but I only do this, if it's very dry and they're blue ). They do like the misting and drink little droplets of water of themselves. :-)

When she goes blue next time just pop a damp flannel on her warm hide and move her water to the warm side.
Hopefully that will up the humidity enough to help.

it may just be a one off, I think the ambient humidity has been pretty low in certain areas of the UK so this could cause it. Sid had a bad shed once and I can't see any reason for it as he had always shed perfect before it, I did nothing the next time he shed and it was perfect again. I would let it happen without doing anything different for the next shed and if it is still bad then offer a humid hide for the one after.
