Posted - 10/02/2013 : 12:17:41 Hi currently my hatchling is in a large faunarium, not sure of age but is weighing 14g. I know they have to go up in house size gradually. I have a 2ft x18" vivarium and then a 3ft x15" (these are ones I already had). Just wondering roughly when s/he will be ready for each viv. Thanks guys and girls |

Posted - 10/02/2013 : 19:35:36 Growth rate really depends on the snakes themselves but you could get a general idea by comparing growth of many snakes. It could be a couple of months away, but it could also be a lot longer, closer to a year like you said
Apollo was the same size as your snake in June 2012. He was big enough to move up to his adult viv (70cm when I moved him up cos he was wide for his length and didn't fit in his hides anymore) in late October (he weighed approx. 65grams at the time.) So for him...4 months? He's a bit of a strange case though as he was just under a year old when I got him at 17g, he had a lot of catching up to do growthwise and he has obliged. He's now well over the 100g mark
I haven't been there with my others yet. Kali was an adult when I got her and my four youngsters are still around the 40g mark. Their growth rates vary but I predict that they will be in the adult vivs by May if their growth stays the same rate. That would be 6 or 7 months since they were approx. 20g and they will probably not go up at the same time as their growth rates have been very different |

Posted - 10/02/2013 : 18:24:44 Ok thank you for ur replies. I'm first time snake owner and don't want to stress out by having too big a house. Managed to measure him/her and is 16.5 inches so according to length by width rule we have got till about 30 inches so a little while yet. Any ideas how quickly they actually grow, could this be a few months or more like year or is it very variable dependant on snake |

Posted - 10/02/2013 : 13:48:35 Ideally, a corn snake should be no longer than the length plus depth of the viv added together. I move my corns straight up to a 3 foot viv when they are longer than length plus depth of a faun, normally at about 70g, depending on how they grow. You just need to make sure that there is lots of cover and places to hide so that the snake doesn't feel insecure. If it stops eating once moved then it could be due to stress of the new home being too big but I've not had this problem yet.
If you do move your hatchie up to a larger viv whilst she is still small make sure to plug all the holes that she could escape from, including the gap between the sliding glass if there is one as a snake can flatten its head and squeeze through amazingly small gaps. I use paper binders along the glass of the viv until my snakes are a more suitable size for the viv. |

My youngest is 7 months old which is in a 3 footer and is growing very quickly on smalls once a week.
Hope this helps all the best Danny |
