Posted - 08/02/2013 : 12:30:39 Hello everyone,
I'll be doing Chakra's first feed on Sunday. I don't have a freezer, so I'll be popping in to the shop to get frozen pinkies once a week. But I just realised, I don't know how long I let them defrost before doing the feed.
What would you suggest? |

Well, this week saw him eat his first fuzzy and do his first shed for us. Everything is going very well. |

Hey there -- thanks for asking.
It went brilliantly! Gobbled them both up within two minutes of each other and settled down nicely to digest. Must have pooped over night last night, so I cleaned up this morning and is it my imagination? or has he already grown :0 -- seems a good deal bigger and longer than when I got him last week, lol. Might just be my imagination though. |

Thanks, Moppet. We just picked up the pinkies from the shop. And the hubby and I will do the first feed tonight after the children are in bed. They're young and would be way too excited and might spook poor Chakra as he tries to eat in peace, lol. So for the first few feeds, we'll keep the kids away.
Wish us luck ;)

Ha ha, one of my cats grabbed a large frozen mouse that I'd taken out for Voldemort and tried to run through the cat flap with it...luckily I'd already locked it for the night, so she wasn't pleased when I took the mouse off her
I only give them pinkies.. they make a terrible mess playing about with anything larger.
I over bought when I first got Kitty so I have a ton of little ones that the cats get as treats... 10 seconds under the tap so they smell and .. down the hatch they go!

Posted - 10/02/2013 : 05:01:02 I leave mine at room temperature for an hour. That's normally plenty of time for them to be defrosted, and room temp normally. I prod them well before feeding to make sure there aren't any cold bits |

Thank gives me an idea of when to go pick them up, based on when I'm going to feed him.

Posted - 08/02/2013 : 13:50:30 I usually get mine out of the freezer and defrost in warm water for 5 mins, so you could always pop them in warm water for a few mins when you get in just to make sure they are defrosted. |
