Posted - 03/02/2013 : 18:33:24 Hey everyone, apologies for not being on here for a while.
I just wanted to ask a question:
I've had Inca since 15th January. She has taken 2 pinkies from me so far and had no problems taking it. But since I have had her, I haven't
1) Seen any signs of poo 2) Seen any signs of shedding....not even going into blue. 3) Seen any signs of growth
Is this normal? Or should I take her to the vet to make sure she is OK?
Her temperatures are
Warm end - 29.5 Cool end - 23.5
Any help would be grateful xx |

Posted - 08/02/2013 : 09:47:56 No, as we both said, 5-6 days is best. My first snake had been fed weekly in the pet shop and wasn't a bad size so I fed her every 6 days, my second was really small and thin when I got her so I fed her every 5 instead. Either will be fine :) In all honesty if it's easier for you then weekly would probably be OK too, it's just normally recommended to be that little bit more often. Sorry to confuse you :) |

Posted - 07/02/2013 : 08:27:04 Sorry, but every 4 days is too often ;) As Razee said, pinks should be every 5/6 days 4 days is just that bit too stressful on their digestive system as they only get 2 days break every time. |

Posted - 07/02/2013 : 08:26:28 Ah, that sounds good. Do you know her weight? Once she's big enough to move to fuzzies, you'll see more of a poop, and she'll grow a bit faster. :-) |

Posted - 06/02/2013 : 15:53:55 Sorry lol...my mistake - her feeding dates were 1st feed (since arriving in the store) was 8th Jan (collected her on the 9th - stupid store told me it was OK and I forgot about the 48hr rule). She travelled well and had her 2nd feed (after 7 day leaving alone) on the 18th Jan. She's since fed well on the 22nd and the26th Jan. She's due another feed tonight, so will try and take some pictures for you all x |

Posted - 06/02/2013 : 13:31:38 Just a thought - how often do you feed? Those 2 feeds seem very far apart - if on pinkies, I'd feed every 5 -6 days ( or weekly at longest ). There isn't much nutrition in a pinkie, so if not fed often enough, the snakie won't grow much, and there'd be hardly any poop, as they'd use up all of the pinkie. |

Posted - 05/02/2013 : 15:23:03 my Jinx goes any where from 1 to 2 months between sheds, as for poo they are very good at hiding it! I once thought 8 hadn't done anything for over a week, posted on here as was rather worried then went for another tub inspection to find he'd hidden it!! |

Posted - 05/02/2013 : 11:26:07 Thanks everyone - sorry for a delayed reply...hate my health at the moment.
I'll keep a check on Inca, but she is really bright and alert, so will just have to keep things as they are at the moment xx |

Posted - 04/02/2013 : 00:28:00 Dime tends to bury his poop! It's like a game of hide and seek! takes me forever to find because I use aspen substrate but don't worry! I'm sure inca will be fine. I'm sure dime saves his poos until I handle him! That's what it feels like anyway!! More poi on me than in his house! |

Posted - 03/02/2013 : 23:22:47 It's so easy to miss a poop with hatchlings. I'm keeping my little guy on kitchen roll as I couldn't find any signs on aspen. I've had my little one since the 10th of January and he's not shed with me yet, so try not to worry too much about Inca |

Posted - 03/02/2013 : 22:20:31 I wouldn't worry about her shed too much, it'll happen when it happens. If she still hasn't shed by say March then maybe start thinking about it again but she may have shed just before you took her home, in which case she wouldn't shed again for at least a couple of weeks from now. Do you have contact details from the person you bought her from? Could you ask them about previous sheds?
That does seem like quite a while for a hatchling to go without pooping, mine tend to do it within 5 days of being fed. My older snakes can go for 3/4 weeks quite happily though. |

Posted - 03/02/2013 : 19:21:40 Hey Moppet - thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
1) I don't know when she last shed to be honest. 2) She had her first pinkie on the 8th January and her 2nd on the 18th Jan - both taken with no problems at all, in fact she went nuts on both of them lol. She's too small to have 2 pinkies at once as she only measures about 12 inches lol.
Hope that helps xx |

Posted - 03/02/2013 : 19:04:03 15th jan to 3rd feb isn't that long to go without shedding. Do you know the date of her last shed before you got her? My hatchies shed every 4-6 weeks which is quite normal.
Growth can be quite slow when they're little and still on pinkies. It took one of mine a month to put on a few grams at the beginning.
When did she have the pinkies? Was it two meals or one with two pinks at once? Hatchie poop is very small and can be easily missed if they're on a substrate like aspen or other wood based or paper pulp stuff.
Temperatures sound okay to me, I prefer to keep my snakes a little cooler - at 28-29 hot end and 21ish cold end but that is just personal preference really. |
