Just about to move Smiley from his faunarium into a wooden vivarium, should he be left alone for 7 days to get used to the new home before handling?
Thanks Chris |

My Little Twiddler has just moved from his 2ft Monkfield viv into 4 ft bigboy's viv on wednesday. He's quite a confident and outgoing snakey, so doesn't mind changes much, and was roaming and exploring straight away. ( I gave him plenty of cover, and all his old hides + some new ones ). I left him till saturday evening, then fed him ( so that I'd HAVE to leave him for a couple more days :-) ). Then I'll treat him as usual.
When I moved Bazil, she needed more time to adjust, she's very shy, hid under the substrate and didn't come out for days... it took her almost a month to be comfortable in her new home. 7 days is the usual time, but you might need to adjust it, according to how your snake reacts to the change ( and, let's face it, how long you can hold off the handling, too :-) ) |

Posted - 17/11/2012 : 21:58:48 Thanks for the replys I'll give him a few days to settle and hope to see him out exploring before handling. As you can imagine, i have been collecting loads of stones, hides, branches and plants for months now in anticiptaion of his move - he'll have plenty to hide amongst and explore. Thanks again |

Posted - 17/11/2012 : 21:06:41 I always give them 7 days to get used to a new viv. It's amazing how jumpy they can be even with their own hides and decor, so I like to see them out exploring before handling

Posted - 17/11/2012 : 19:29:42 Give him a day or two to explore the new bigger space. If he was OK before, he should be familiar with your scent and shouldn't be a problem to handle. You won't do any harm by trying. |
